The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce invites members and guests to a Chamber Coffee this Thursday, December 21st at 8 a.m. hosted by the City of Fort Scott which will be held at City Hall, 123 S. Main Street. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

At this week’s Coffee, the City staff will provide a recap of the year 2023, and give a preview of what is to come in 2024.

Any member business or organization wanting to host Chamber Coffee in 2023 is encouraged to contact the Chamber to save a date by calling 620-223-3566 or emailing [email protected].

Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce Announces Christmas Light Winners

The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce announces the winners of the 2023 Christmas Light Contest with cash prizes sponsored by Niece Products.

Top Residential is awarded to three places:

1st Place:  John Willis, 806 S. Barbee

2nd Place:  Jordan Vansickle, 320 Sunset Drive

3rd Place:  Carla Farmer, 2146 Jayhawk

Top Business is awarded to Mayco Ace Hardware Store, 205 Scott Ave.

Special recognition is also given to Clark Street Lights at 753 S. Clark Street who continue to have amazing displays this year for the community and visitors to enjoy.

The Chamber would like to thank everyone in the community who put up lights to make our town festive this holiday season.

The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce invites members and guests to a Chamber Coffee this Thursday, December 14th at 8 a.m. hosted by Hedgehog.INK! Bookstore, located at 16 S. Main St. Coffee, juice, and light refreshments will be served.

Dick and Jan Hedges opened Hedgehog.INK! Bookstore on October 31st, 2018 with the goal to support the community, encourage others to invest in Downtown Fort Scott, and to provide a market for local vendors and authors. Hedgehog.INK! started in a one store front with almost 10,000 books, today they have expanded into a children’s room, the great room, and the reading loft with nearly 30,000 books. The host 11 vendors and 32 local authors. Events at Hedgehog.INK! include; story times, author talks, Wednesday Writers group, and an Annual Writing Seminar. This week’s Chamber Coffee will be bittersweet as owner Jan Hedges and staff are celebrating their 5-year anniversary, but Jan has announced that she will be retiring and will be moving closer to family. Come out and join us this Thursday as we thank Jan for 5 years in Downtown Fort Scott and help spread the word if you know a possible new owner for a wonderful bookstore!

Every evening with an extra 8:15pm tour on Friday/Saturday or also on weekdays in demands allow!

Arrive early before the tour for

complimentary hot cocoa, cookies,

candy canes & glow necklaces!

Book the whole trolley for just your group for $125, OR purchase individual tickets for

$8 adults, $5 kids 12 and under.

Elves will be aboard each tour for caroling & fun!

Tour lasts 50-minutes to an hour.

The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce invites members and guests to a Chamber Coffee this Thursday, December 7th at 8 a.m. hosted by Fort Scott Compassionate Ministries, located at 26 N. Main St. Coffee, juice, and light refreshments will be served.

Allen Schellack is the Director/Chaplain at Fort Scott Compassionate Ministries.  The Ministry Center is sponsored locally by Fort Scott Church of the Nazarene and a designated Salvation Army Disaster Relief and Services Extension Unit for Bourbon County. Their vision is to see every individual and family living successfully and interdependently within a caring community. Fort Scott Compassionate Ministries oversees the local Salvation Army efforts of bell ringing during the holidays to bring donations right back here to Bourbon County. They are still seeking bell ringers to volunteer this season. If you are interested, you can find their contact info. on our website fortscott.com or their Facebook page.

Niece Products is sponsoring the Christmas Light Contest with cash prizes for the winners including:

Residential : 1st/$100, 2nd/$75, 3rd/$50

Top Business: $100

Top Neighborhood: $100

Other contest details:

  • Lights should be in place by Dec. 5th and judging will take place between the 11th and 13th.
  • Properties within a 1 mile radius of city limits will be considers for contest
  • Those wanting to ensure their property or someone else’s judged should call or email the Chamber with their address, name, and phone number
  • Lighting and decorations must be visible from street view.

2023 Christmas Parade Winners

The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all who attended or participated in the 2023 Christmas Parade held Thursday, November 30th in the Downtown Historic District.

The theme was “A Candy Land Christmas” and many of the entries did an exceptional job of coordinating with the theme.

 

The parade was sponsored by Briggs of Fort Scott.

The panel of judges selected the following winners out of fifty-four entries:  1st place as Extrusions, Inc., 2nd place as Fort Scott FFA, and 3rd place as Carhelp/Washateria.

 

The contribution of many is what makes events like the Christmas parade successful.  The Chamber is sincerely appreciative of all who volunteered, announced, judged, and otherwise had a part in the parade.

Museum of Creativity Candy Land Adventure on December 2

The Museum of Creativity…..

Rural Development Grant to help team help small businesses succeed

Come to the Museum of Creativity to experience our 1st annual Candy Land Adventure. Guests of all ages will experience the wonder of playing the classic board game using themselves as the game piece. Players will trudge through the Chocolate Swamp and fight their way through Licorice Lagoon. This will mostly involve walking although there will be opportunities to crawl through Gumdrop Pass, slide in Gramma Nuts Peanut Brittle House, craft a candy cane bracelet or ornament in Peppermint Forrest and other side adventures if they choose to wander off colored path that goes around such things. All players will make it to the finish line with a cake walk inside Candy Castle where everyone will be a winner with a treat of their own. Cakes, cupcakes and cookies are being supplied by contestants in our decorating contest so they will be gorgeous and delicious!

Sunshine Boutique celebrated forty-two years of business in the Downtown Historic District on October 18th. Georgia Brown, her granddaughter Rilie Creollo, and team offer unique and quality items including whole bean coffees and fresh teas, candles, bath & body, apparel, home decor, tuxedo rentals, and floral services. Georgia Brown is a legacy in Fort Scott, and we are so excited to announce that she will be the Grand Marshal for the Candy Land Christmas Parade this Thursday night at 6pm. Join us Thursday to see what Georgia, Rilie, and team have new in-store for great gifts and stocking stuffers!
