Productive With Google Digital Tools
Chamber and community members are invited to a Google Livestream: Get Productive With Google’s Digital Tools, hosted by the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce. The event will take place on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Lowell Milken Center For Unsung Heroes, 1 S. Main Street in Fort Scott.
In this free Google Livestream, attendees will learn how to use Google’s digital tools to help them manage everyday tasks more efficiently.
The following topics will be covered:
- How Google’s office productivity tools (including Gmail, Calendar, Drive and other apps) can boost productivity
- Tips and tricks for getting more out of the tools, and how to use them most efficiently
- Creative ways to accomplish a variety of tasks for your professional and personal projects in your everyday life
Whether you’re a student, job seeker, parent, volunteer, an employee, or business owner, digital tools can help you manage everyday tasks more efficiently.

Candidate Forum July 23
Save the Date: Community members are invited to an Election Candidate Forum co-hosted by the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce and the Young Professionals League of Bourbon County. The event will take place on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the FSCC Ellis Fine Arts Center at 2108 S. Horton. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a meet & greet with the candidates and the forum will begin at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
There will be two races on the Primary Election ballot which will be included in this forum:
- The first is USD-234 Position 3. There are 5 candidates for 1 position; this race will be narrowed to 2 candidates after the primary election. Candidates include Kellye Barrows, Joe Foulk Sr., Michael Hoyt, Josh Jones, and Aaron Judy.
- The second is Fort Scott City Commission. There are 14 candidates for 3 positions; this race will be narrowed to 6 candidates after the primary election. Candidates include Cheryl Adamson, Harold (Pete) Allen, Kevin (Skitch) Allen, Cindy Bartelsmeyer, Casey Bolden, Tracy Dancer, Bobby Duncan, Bob Farmer, Josh Jones, Deb McCoy, Diana Morriss, Jeanie Parker, Lindsey Watts, and Matthew Wells.
Questions for the candidates may be submitted to the Chamber by July 22nd by email at [email protected] or mailed or dropped off in person. Candidates are asked to RSVP to the Chamber prior to the forum by phone or email.

Lowell Milken Fellows Presented Key to Fort Scott
Fort Scott city officials welcomed the first class of the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes Fellows with the key to the city today.
Burris Hall Expanded at FSCC
There is construction going on at Fort Scott Community College, 2108 S. Horton this summer.
“There is a new addition to Burris Hall, the ag department,” FSCC President Alysia Johnston said. “They are classrooms mostly, a couple of offices and refurbishing the old section and a new roof. Concrete and some steel (materials) are going up now.”
A 3, 800 square foot addition is being added to the agriculture department, known as Burris Hall, said Cory Spear, superintendent for Crossland Construction. Crossland Construction of Columbus is the general contractor for the project.
The addition will be approximately 50 foot by 80 foot, and include three offices, a kitchen area and a commons area, he said.
The old segment of the building has been gutted and the offices and classrooms are being updated, Spear said.
The project broke ground on May 20 and will be completed on
August 10, barring inclement weather, he said.
“We’ve already had two weeks of weather dates since we started,” Spear said.
There are 30 employees working on the construction project, he said.
