For decades, Fort Scott residents have watched our street repair cycle repeat itself: mill the surface, apply a costly asphalt overlay, and watch potholes and cracks reappear just a few seasons later. Nowhere is this clearer than on historic corridors like Wall Street (Highway 54), where early 1900s brick rests on active, unstable clay soils without subgrade stabilization. We are spending taxpayer dollars over and over on surface symptoms without addressing the foundation beneath.
It is time to adopt a proven, modern approach: Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR) with mechanical stabilization, paired with a renewable double chip seal surface.
