Tuesday was a successful night for the Uniontown Eagles. Both Varsity teams, as well as the girls’ JV, were victorious against the Yates Center Wildcats.

The Varsity Lady Eagles won their match against the Wildcats 57-25. Karleigh Schoenberger scored 21 points and had 4 boards. Danielle Howard followed with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 8 steals. Laney Covey, Gwenyth Fry, Sammie Hampton, and Kaydra Woods each scored 4 points, and Fry had 5 rebounds. The JV girls won 37-24, with Rylee Coulter leading the team with 14 points.

“Proud of the effort, attitude, and toughness that was displayed by the team tonight. Both the Varsity and Junior Varsity took care of business!” says Coach Miller. “We will get back to work tomorrow on those fundamental skills that make the game of basketball fun to play.”

The Varsity boys won their game 63-45. Jake Harvey scored 32 points and had 8 boards and 3 assists. Clay Sutterby followed with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Luke Perry also had 6 rebounds, as well as 4 assists. Drew Perry had 4 assists and 4 steals.

“The boys put together a complete game tonight. They got after it on the defensive end and played well together on offense. This was a great way to start league play,” said Coach Hays.

The final game of the Humboldt Pre-season Tournament saw Uniontown face the Crest Lancers. Both Varsity teams won against the Lancers.

The Lady Eagles defeated Crest 61-26. Danielle Howard scored 25 points and had 5 rebounds and 9 steals. Rylee Coulter scored twice and had 4 steals and 1 assist. Karleigh Schoenberger scored 16 points with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. She was also 2/2 on free throws. Sammie Hampton had 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Addisyn Hall, another freshman, also had 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Gwenyth Fry had 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

“It was good to get a win going into the weekend,” said Coach Miller. “It’s time to rest, regroup, and get back to practice. Looking forward to playing at home next Tuesday when we take on the Yates Center Wildcats.”

The boys played a close game, winning 44-42. Jake Harvey led with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Luke Perry scored 12 points and had 3 assists. Drew Perry had 3 steals, Dawson Dreisbach had 2 steals, and Clay Sutterby had 15 rebounds.

Coach Hays said of the game, “I am proud of our boys. It wasn’t always pretty, but we executed a play late that was just enough to get us our first win. We defended and rebounded well enough to keep us in the game. We missed a lot of shots in the paint that we need to finish.”

Before winter break, the Eagles will face Yates Center at home on Tuesday, December 15, and Marmaton Valley at Moran on Friday, December 18.

UNIONTOWN HS BASKETBALL 2020-21 RESULTS GAME 1

The 2020-21 Uniontown Eagles’ basketball season kicked off at Humboldt with the first game of the Humboldt Tournament. Both Varsity teams played the Humboldt Cubs.

The final score of the first tournament game was 55-38, Uniontown. Danielle Howard was 5/5 on free throws and scored a total of 29 points. She made four three-pointers and had 4 assists, 6 deflections, and 5 steals. Alie Fuhrman had 4 rebounds, and Sammie Hampton had 3 rebounds. Karleigh Schoenberger scored 18 points with 2 three-pointers and had 4 steals, as well as 2 assists.

“We are blessed to be able to get back on the court and compete,” said Coach Miller. “We are grateful for everyone that made this possible. Our first game was a little rough, but we know how to fix it and we will. Looking forward to getting back in the gym to get better.”

The boys’ game, which ended after one overtime, was lost 55-59. Jake Harvey scored 23 points and had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Clay Sutterby scored 13 points and had 5 rebounds. Cade Goodridge had 6 rebounds and Drew Holt had 4.

Coach Hays said, “I thought the boys competed hard against Humboldt. They have a really good basketball program and are well-coached. It was nice to see our boys play hard and fight back to take them to overtime. We have some things we need to improve on. We need to rebound the ball better and hit our free throws. We also need to do a better job of attacking the rim when our shots aren’t falling. We will continue to work hard in practice and prepare for Erie.”

The tournament will resume on Thursday, December 10 at Humboldt, where both teams will play Erie. Friday’s game will also be at Humboldt, where the teams will face Crest.

The playoff post-season has gone well for the UHS football team! Here’s the results of the two playoff games:

On October 30, 2020, the Uniontown Eagles played Troy and defeated them with a score of 51-14, setting a new record for points scored in a playoff game for UHS. The team had 453 total yards of offense and 7 touchdowns. Drew Perry had 31 carries for 234 yards with 4 touchdowns and completed 4/7 passes for 41 yards. Treden Buckman had 24 carries for 181 yards and 3 touchdowns. Luke Perry had 2 receptions for 26 yards, and Jake Harvey had 1 reception for 19 yards.

On the defensive side, we held Troy to 174 total yards and forced 2 turnovers. Jake Harvey had 10 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 1 pass breakup. Drew Perry had 5 tackles and 2 pass breakups, Hunter Schaaf also had 5 tackles, and Joey Marlow had 3 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 interception. Tyler Harvey scored 6/7 extra points, and 1 field goal for 33 yards.

Coach Stark was incredibly proud of the team. “Some media outlets had predicted that Troy would upset us in the first round. Troy has a really good tradition and a really good program history. They won the state title in 2016. We were able to take control of the game pretty early on. We knew Troy had a really talented quarterback, so our plan was to run the clock, run the ball on offense, and limit big plays on defense. We were able to force a couple of turnovers, we were able to run the ball and establish the ground game early. We ran for over 400 7 we didn’t have a single turnover. Our lineman really set the tone. The 51 points we scored were the most ever by the team in a playoff game. The previous record was 50, set in 2015.”

On Friday, November 6, the Eagles defeated Northeast Arma 45-0. This game won Uniontown its first regional title since 1998, and posted the school’s first shutout in the post-season since 1982. Offensively, the team ran 326 total yards and had 5 touchdowns. Drew Perry had 10 carries for 100 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2/3 on passing for 15 yards. Treden Buckman had 15 carries for 146 yards with 1 touchdown. Jake Harvey had 4 carries for 27 yards, scored 1 touchdown, and had 1 reception for 19 yards. Hunter Schaaf had 6 carries for 46 yards, and Cade Goodridge had 2 receptions for 15 yards.

The team defensively held the Vikings to 39 total yards and forced 2 turnovers. Zach Franklin had 11 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. Korbin Miller had 7 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sack. Ian McClure had 5 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 1 sack. Jake Harvey had 10 tackles and 1 tackle for loss. Drew Perry had 2 tackles and 1 interception, and Hunter Schaaf had 8 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 interception. Tyler Harvey scored 5/5 extra points and 1 field goal for 30 yards. Byron Fry had 3 tackles and 1 blocked punt, and Riley Warner had 3 tackles and 1 blocked punt, which was recovered for a touchdown.

Coach Stark said of the game, “Not only did we win a regional title on Friday night, but we finished the season undefeated in our league. Our defense had their best game of the year, only giving up 39 yards, and we forced 2 turnovers. Because of the effort of our linemen up front, I feel like our game against Arma was the best game of the year. Our guys play with great effort, technique, and determination, and it really shows.

“While we are excited about our wins these past two weeks, we are even more excited about the opportunity to play Olpe in the sectional round of the payoffs. Olpe is ranked number one in the state, and they beat us earlier this season 48-2. That was a really close game until halftime; I believe, this time, that we’ll play them tight for a full four quarters and that it’ll be a close game.”

The Sub-State game is at Olpe on Friday, November 13, so making the drive could be difficult, but any support for our Eagles will be appreciated!

The Lady Eagle Volleyball season came to an end Saturday at the 2A Sub-State Tournament hosted at Uniontown.

In the first round, Uniontown defeated Pleasanton 25-19 and 25-15. Bri Stokes had 10 points and 10 assists. Danielle Howard was 14/18 on attacks with 7 kills and 5 solo blocks. Paige Mason was 11/11 on attacks with 2 kills.

The second round saw Erie defeat Uniontown 26-24 and 25-10. Bri Stokes had 5 points and 4 assists. Karleigh Schoenberger was 12/14 on attacks with one kill and Danielle Howard was 9/10 on attacks with 3 kills. Gwen Fry had 3 solo blocks.

“The team played hard,” Coach Hall says. “We just couldn’t shut down Erie’s middle hitter when she got to the front row, and she was on fire. I’m so proud of this team. The six seniors have shown great leadership throughout their career and this challenging season. I wish them the best in their future plans and look forward to the 2021 season.”

The Varsity squad finished the season with an overall record of 12-4 and were Co-Champions of the Three Rivers League, tied with St.Paul and Chetopa.

On Friday, the Varsity football team faced Lyndon and lost 41-0. Treden Buckman had 14 rushes for 61 yards, and Drew Perry had 20 rushes for 103 yards. Perry also completed 4/5 passes for 12 yards. and had 3 unassisted tackles. Jake Harvey had 5 assists and received two passes, and Luke Perry had 1 interception.

The first round of playoffs is Friday, October 30^th at Uniontown, so let’s run down some cumulative stats…

The week of Homecoming was a busy one for the Eagles! The Varsity volleyball team defeated Oswego on October 13. They played 5 sets scoring 23-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, and 15-10. Paige Mason scored 14 points and Bri Stokes scored 12 points with 28 assists. Libby Schaaf was 38/43 on attacks with 5 kills, Danielle Howard was 26/29 on attacks with 11 kills, Karleigh Schoenberger was 24/28 on attacks with 7 kills, and Gwen Fry was 23/26 on attacks with 5 kills. Danielle also had 13 solo blocks.

The Varsity team also traveled to Pleasanton on October 15 to play Pleasanton and Kansas City Christian. They came home having defeated both teams in two sets.

The Eagles defeated KCC 25-4 and 25-5. Karleigh Schoenberger scored 21 points and had 14 consecutive serves, and Paige Mason scored 19 points and had 15 consecutive serves. Danielle Howard was 18/19 on attacks with 8 kills and Paige Mason was 9/9 on attacks with 2 kills. Bri Stokes had 15 assists.

Uniontown also defeated Pleasanton, sets both scoring 25-12. Danielle Howard was 23/24 on attacks with 13 kills, and Paige Mason was 16/16 on attacks with 4 kills, Libby Schaaf was 11/11 on attacks with 4 kills. Danielle Howard and Gwen Fry each had 3 solo blocks and Bri Stokes had 19 assists.

Coach Hall said of the games, “The five-set match with Oswego on Tuesday showed a lot of character and determination from the team. Losing the first two sets and having to come back and win three: that is challenging, but the team rose to the occasion!

“The JV season has come to a close after Oswego’s match. The team finished with a 5-12 overall record. Varsity will be preparing for Class 2A Sub-State, which we will be hosting on Saturday, October 24.”

The football team also played an exciting game, facing Central Heights and defeating them 25-14. Drew Perry had 25 rushes for 119 yards and 6 tackles, as well as 1 completed 8-yard pass. Treden Buckman had 24 rushes for 127 yards. Zach Franklin had 9 tackles and Jake Harvey had 8 tackles. Drew Buckman had 5 tackles, 1 interception, and 1 pass deflected. Cayman Fewell and Korbin Miller each had 1 sack. Moving forward, Uniontown will host a playoff game at home on Friday October 30^th, so come support your Eagles before preparing for some Halloween festivities of your own!

The Uniontown Lady Eagles Volleyball team faced the Marmaton Valley Wildcats in the first home game of the season on Tuesday, October 6. Both JV and Varsity teams defeated the Wildcats.

The JV defeated Moran 25-9 and 26-24. Alexis Herring scored 12 points.

The Varsity Lady Eagles defeated Moran 25-18, 25-18, and 25-11. Bri Stokes scored 11 points, and Paige Mason scored 10 points and had 2 solo blocks. Danielle Howard was 24/25 on attacks with 13 kills and 6 solo blocks. Karleigh Schoenberger was 17/19 on attacks with 4 kills. Libby Schaaf was 15/16 on attacks with 2 kills. Gwenyth Fry was 12/12 on attacks with 3 kills and 2 solo blocks.

“The gym was ROCKIN’!!” said Coach Hall. The student section was indeed, rockin’. “Great atmosphere and it paid off…both teams were victorious!”

The UHS football team lost 28-8 against Riverton on Friday. Treden Buckman had 8 rushes for 27 yards, Hunter Schaaf had 9 rushes for 34 yards with one touchdown, and Drew Perry had 20 rushes for 97 yards. Jake Harvey had 3 pass receptions for 33 yards. Drew Perry completed 5/5 passes for 69 yards. As far as tackling went, Jake Harvey and Drew Perry each had 4 unassisted tackles, and Caleb Davis had 3 unassisted tackles. Joey Marlow had 2 fumble recoveries.
