Michael Richard Conroy, 71, of Fort Scott, went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, December 19, 2020. He was born in Ottawa, Kansas, to Clarence Richard Conroy, Jr. and Mary Ann Welton Conroy. He moved to Fort Scott when he was ten years old.

He married his high school sweetheart Connie Sue Magee on July 19, 1969, in Fort Scott, Kansas, and she survives of the home. They are the proud parents to three sons, Brian (Jamie), Brent Michael (Crystal), and Matthew (Krista). They were blessed with eight grandchildren: Austin (Saundra), Patrick, Grace, Evan, Anna, Bailey, Jake, and Hunter.

Mike was a 1967 graduate of Fort Scott High School. He graduated from Fort Scott Community College in 1970. He attended two years at Pittsburg State in automotive technology. His first job was plant manager for Henkle Bottling Company. He worked several years for Norris Heating and Air Conditioning. He served on Fort Scott Rural Fire before joining the Fort Scott Fire Department in 1977. He worked there fifteen years and excelled at his job as a firefighter. He then was employed at Fort Scott U-234 on the maintenance staff at the high school for eleven years.

Mike was an avid sportsman all his life. He taught his sons and many of their friends the enjoyment of fishing and hunting. He was a friend to many and enjoyed helping others. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He attained his Eagle Scout at age fourteen, and was a member of Ducks Unlimited.

He is survived by his wife Connie and his three sons, their wives, and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sisters.

Adonis Lamonte Johnniel Brown, 6-day old son of Macretia Brown, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the Via Christi Emergency Room in Ft. Scott, Kansas.

He was born December 14, 2020, in Nevada, Missouri. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Adele and Avaya. Also surviving are his grandmother, LaToya Grant, great-grandmother, Willa Wilson, two uncles, Tabias Wilson and Eric Grant, an aunt, Synee Brown and a host of extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Monday, December 28th at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Patricia Ann Enslow, age 62, resident of Redfield, KS, died Saturday, December 19, 2020, at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.

She was born on April 20, 1958, in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Miles Rollin Veach and Alexandria Elizabeth Christina Ure Veach. Patty, nicknamed Gypsy, enjoyed shopping and everything Christmas. She collected snowmen and snow globes and driving to see the Christmas lights. She was an avid watcher of all the Christmas shows on Hallmark television.

Patty loved her family and had the greatest joy in spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She was a free-spirited person who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include 3 sons, Corey Breese, Wichita, KS, Butch Burns (KayLynn), Redfield, KS, and Sylvester Burns, OK; 5 daughters, Katina Veach-Forwerck, OH, Christina Lucas, Frontenac, KS, Angela Hixon (Travis) Redfield, Heather Burns (Kalob Chaplin), Ft. Scott, KS, and Clara Burns, OK; a sister, Denice Kellum, Wichita; 18 grandchildren, Brian, Gage, Audra, Lorenza, Kristal, Alex, Angelica, Christina, Destiny, Jenna, Earnest, Libby, Mason, Harley, Christina Marie, Corey Jr., Joshua, and Vivian; 5 great grandchildren; 2 nephews; and her beloved Chihuahua, Todd Eugene.

She was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Veach; and her parents.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 23^rd, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

William Grant Wiggans, age 66, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the Via Christi Emergency Room in Ft. Scott. He was born January 12, 1954, in Ft. Scott, the son of Donald Wesley Wiggans and Betty Bernice Powell Wiggans.

He married Amy Minor in 1984. Before they married, he was known as “Wild Bill” and after, that changed to “Sweet William.”

Bill worked road construction for several years before working for Bourbon County his last 12 years. He was known as “Roust About” by his co-workers. Bill could operate any type of machinery. He enjoyed horses, dogs, and tinkering with mowers and tractors.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved them all. Bill will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife Amy of the home; four sons, Randy Earnest and wife Carrie, Bronaugh, MO, Patrick Earnest, Ft. Scott, Gerod Wiggans, Ft. Scott, and Gary Wiggans, Ft. Scott; adopted son Ron Widder and wife Cathy, Ft. Scott; his mother, Betty Wiggans, Ft. Scott; a sister, Carla Fowler and husband Mike, Ft. Scott; 14 grandchildren, Taylor Jo, Koltin, Mattie, Garrett, Isaac, Kendall, Nellie, Chandler, McCallister, Jackson, Poncho, Rhya, Daisy, and Jayda; two great-grandchildren, Emiyah and Everleigh; special caregiver Amber Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Susan Schnichels, Mary Sampson, and Dawn Sharp; and his father.

Marjorie Dee Stringer, 85, of Fort Scott passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at the Presbyterian Village. She was born August 17, 1935, in Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Joel Emmett and Irma Joy (Woodell) VanMeter. She married Wayne Stringer December 30, 1954, in Thayer, Kansas. He preceded her in death September 15, 2013.

Marjorie was a secretary and treasurer for Fort Scott High School for many years. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, and she was also a member of the Iza Stompers and the City Hand Bell Choir. Marjorie was active in Starlight FCE, the Camping Club, and the Garden Club.

Marjorie is survived by her children, James Wesley Stringer of Rogers, Arkansas, Rhonda Sue Allen and husband Jim of Fort Scott, and Randall Wayne Stringer and wife Valerie of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; a brother, Dale VanMeter and wife Iris, of Post Falls, Idaho, Phyllis Johnson and husband Howard, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Maude Burns of Iola, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Chris Stringer and wife AnnDee, Elizabeth Kinnaman and husband Ryan, Jennifer Barngrover and husband Dan, Matthew Stringer and wife Kelly, Hilary Randolph and husband Preston, Scott Allen, and Marliss Allen; a step-granddaughter, Stephanie Sherrick; nine great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Wayne, she was also preceded in death by her parents, twin sister Marian Carson, another sister Shirley Powers, a brother Wayne VanMeter, and daughter-in-law Cynthia Stringer.

Margaret Ann Lewis, age 73, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.

She was born September 3, 1947, in Ft. Scott, the daughter of John Byron “Jack” Hagood and Christina Gertrude Peters Hagood.

She graduated from FSHS. Margaret married Timmy Lewis on September 15, 1973, in Mapleton, KS. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2008.

Margaret worked much of her 30-year career in home health as a CNA for Community Care Connection. She formed many lasting relationships with the individuals she cared for.

She enjoyed playing mobile games and spending time with her family. She was a regular at Pete’s on Wall St., drinking coffee and visiting with friends early each weekday. She would go to Max’s on the weekend mornings and NuGrille daily for dinner.

She loved dogs and would always reference her son’s dogs by asking “how’s my babies doing?”

Survivors include her son, John Cauthon and wife Beth, Ft. Scott; two brothers, John Hagood and wife Barbara, Medicine Lodge, KS, and Mike Hagood, Ft. Scott; and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Besides her husband Timmy, she was preceded in death by both parents.

Ruth Elizabeth Farmer, 82, of Fort Scott, Kansas, passed away on December 15, 2020. She is survived by her loving husband, Gene Farmer, who currently resides at the Presbyterian Manor of Fort Scott.

Ruth was born March 14, 1938, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Edward and Edith Milam. She married Gene Farmer on December 3, 1983, at Overland Park Christian Church in Overland Park, Kansas where they lived until they retired and built a home on their farm in Fort Scott in 1996.

Ruth grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, attending Overland Park Elementary and Shawnee Mission North High School where she graduated in 1956. She then attended the University of Kansas from 1956 to 1960 and received a BS in Education majoring in Physical Education. She was an active member of Alpha Delta PI sorority and participated in several outside clubs and organizations. She also went on to receive her Master of Science Degree in Education from KU in 1969.

Ruth enjoyed a satisfying 34-year career as a Physical Education Teacher for the Olathe Kansas School district, first at Olathe North High School from 1960 to 1968, then at Santa Fe Trail Junior High from 1968 until her retirement in 1994.

Ruth loved to travel, collected all kinds of KU and Jayhawk memorabilia, and gardened on their farm.  She and Gene took several wonderful trips and cruises together. She enjoyed making cross-stitch and needlepoint gifts for her family and friends such as Christmas stockings, pictures, and quilts, and always included a Jayhawk somewhere on each. Ruth was an avid KU basketball and football fan and held season tickets to Allen Field House for over 30 years. She and Gene also enjoyed attending the New Theatre dinner theater in Overland Park with her sister & her husband.  Ruth was also active in several Women’s organizations and church groups over the years both in Overland Park and Fort Scott.

Ruth was the oldest of three and is survived by her loving sisters Janice M. Sprinkle of Overland Park and Margaret A. Ferriman of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and numerous nieces and nephews of the Sprinkle, Ferriman, and Milam families.  When Ruth married Gene, she became the stepmother of Cynthia Huyett (Kansas City, KS), Rod & Kris Farmer (Olathe, KS), Marty & Sandy Farmer (Independence, MO), and Kathleen Bailey (Belton, MO) who preceded her in death.  Over the next 37 years she became grandmother of 18 and great grandmother of 16 who knew her as either Aunt Ruthie or Grandma Ruthie.
