Obituary of George D. Weber

 

George Daniel Weber, age 75, resident of Hepler, Kansas, passed away at 7:05 a.m., Thursday, July 16th, 2020, at his home surrounded by family.

George was born September 19th, 1944, in Nevada, Missouri, the son of Lewis Daniel Weber and Marzie Etheleen (Cocke) Weber. He attended the Hackberry Country School, Nevada High School and Fort Scott Community College.

George married Arlene Ausemus on March 29th, 1982, in Grove, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.

George, enlisted in the United States Army on November 19th, 1966, and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and then advanced individual training at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Following his completion of his military training, George was deployed to the Mekong River Delta, Vietnam in support of United States Military forces in the Vietnam War. During his time in service, George served as primary motor pool sergeant and was instrumental in his unit’s success in the completion of numerous reconnaissance missions for retrieval and repair of military equipment throughout his time in Vietnam. After returning home from Vietnam, George was station at Fort Carson, Colorado until he was honorably discharged at the rank of E5/Sergeant on November 16th, 1969.

During his life George worked as a journeyman roofer as a part of the roofers union while employed by Maloney Roofing, Delivery and Sales for Fort Scott Beverage Company, Sales and Service for Henkley Beverage/ 7up International, lead carpenter for Joe Richards construction, 13+ years as a convenience store manager for Severy’s Conoco in Fort Scott, Kansas, as well as spent many years working for local farmers and ranchers.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, family fish fry’s, vacationing in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and spending time with his family.

He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Arlene Weber, of Hepler; son David Weber, and his wife, Betty, of Fort Scott; daughter Robin Weber, and spouse, Justin Edwards, of Girard; daughter Sheril Murray, and husband, Evan, of Toronto; daughter Sara Conkling, and husband, Joseph, of Fort Scott; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister Verna Helen Steele of Springfield, MO; and his brother Woody Weber of Rich Hill, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Lois Weber; two brothers, William and Claud Weber; and two nephews, David Leon Weber and Gary Weber.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:15 PM Tuesday July 21st, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Private family burial will take place in the U. S. National Cemetery, Ft. Scott.

Obituary of Johnny Jolliff

 

Johnny Jeanette (Hines) Jolliff, age 51, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Friday, July 17, 2020, at her home. She was born April 29, 1969, in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Kenneth and Oleta Smith Hines.

She worked as a truck driver, worked for Tri-Valley Developmental Services, and also worked as a caregiver for over 35 years.

She loved spending time with her adopted family fishing, geocaching, and sightseeing in the car. She was always up for a new adventure.

She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sisters, Connie Willis, Ft. Scott; Rebecca Haga, Waldron, AR; Lillian Lewis, Arma, KS; and Peggy Hull, Ft. Scott; her mother, Oleta Smith, Ft. Scott; her grandmother, Lillian Smith, Kansas City, KS; best friend of 30 years, Forestine “Babe” Goodbody; special buddy K. W. Goodbody; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Hines; a sister, Nancy Jo Stewart; and her grandfather, John T. Smith.

Rev. James Collins will conduct funeral services at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 22, at the First Southern Baptist Church, Ft. Scott.

Burial will follow in the Clarksburg Cemetery.

Obituary of Barbara Bolden

Barbara Ann Bolden, age 76, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at her home.

She was born January 10, 1944, in Douglas, AZ, the daughter of Milton and Dorothy Audilet.

She married Leland “John” Bolden on November 29, 1966, in Lowell, AZ.

She enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, casinos, and coloring books with her grandkids. She loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband John of the home; 2 daughters, Laura Barenthin, Ft. Scott, and Barbara Ann Spinazzola and husband Tony, Mesa, AZ; 6 grandchildren, Craig Bolden, Jasmine Barenthin, Lillian Barenthin, Alex Bolden, Sierra Spinazzola, and Caitlyn Spinazzola; and 3 great-grandchildren, Tessa Goddard, Auryana Bolden, Jonathon Bolden, and one more on the way.

Private family services will be held at the Cheney Witt Chapel with burial in the U. S. National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday afternoon at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Obituary of Julie Bahr

Julie Ann Bahr, age 57, went home to be with her Lord on July 14, 2020, after a battle with cancer.

She was born November 11, 1962, at Rock Rapids, Iowa the daughter of August (Gus) and Martha Schaer Feucht.  She was raised on a farm near the small town of Lester, Iowa.  She attended West Lyon Community School from K- 12th grade graduating in 1981.

She continued her schooling at Nettleton Business College.  She worked at Midland National Life Insurance from 1982 – 1984 and then at Regency Inns Management, Inc. in the accounting dept. from 1984-1995.

She became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in August 1982. Julie carried out her strong faith by serving others and enjoyed traveling with her family and friends.   Her caring, loving heart was shared with her aging parents and her nieces and nephews.

Julie married Larry Bahr on July 9, 1995, in Lester, Iowa.  After their marriage, they made their home in Ft. Scott, Kansas.  They later moved to the country near Deerfield, Missouri in the spring of 2008.

Her joy and ambition were raising their children Heather, Austin, and Kendra and volunteering at Ft. Scott Christian Heights where they attended school.

Other special times in Julie’s life were spent enjoying the outdoors at their cabin, fishing, hiking, biking, gardening, and reading.

 

She is survived by her loving husband, of 25 years Larry, of the home;  three children;  Heather (Ben) Self of Liberal, MO, Austin and Kendra of the home, sisters; Sue (Gary) Schneider West Bend, Iowa, Joan (Jim) Dietrich of Sublimity, Oregon, Esther (Wes) Moser Lester, Iowa, Beth (Rod) Steffen of Cissna Park, Illinois, brothers; Roy (Melisa) Feucht Lester, Iowa, Tim (Carla) Feucht of Larchwood, Iowa.  In-Laws; Jim and Ruth Bahr, Teresa Bahr, Jerry (Maria) Bahr all of Ft. Scott, Kansas, Judy (Phil) Schlatter of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Martha Feucht; and two sisters, Sharon Strahm and Ruth Ann Feucht.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 18th at the Lamar, Missouri Apostolic Christian Church.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the Lamont Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Lamont, Kansas.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Obituary of David C. Middleton

David Charles Middleton, age 70, a resident of rural Ft. Scott, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020, at his home.

He was born August 1, 1949, in Ft. Scott, the son of Lee Charles Middleton and Allie Ethyl Peterson Middleton.

David graduated from the Ft. Scott High School with the Class of 1967.

He married Sharon Simpson on November 18, 1966, at Nevada, Missouri.

In earlier years, David worked at Mid-America Business forms and then for the Co-Op in Uniontown and Beulah.  He later returned to the printing industry and was employed by Apico Printing in Girard and later Ward-Kraft in Ft. Scott.  In addition, he operated his own farm and dairy.  He retired in 2011.

He was a member of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church, the Xenia Masonic Lodge and the Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as spending time with his grandchildren.

 

Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of the home; his son, Chris Middleton (Amy Larson), of Pittsburg; seven grandchildren, Brittany Horn (John), of Lawrence, Kansas, Matthew Prettyman (Alexis) and Shelby Garcia (Steven), all of Williston, Florida and Jazzmin Middleton, Dylan Middleton, Kaydence Clark and Kamdin Clark, all of Pittsburg, Kansas and seven great-grandchildren, Cameron, Kaden, Izzy, Addison, Elle, Amora and Aurelia. Also surviving are a brother, Kenneth Middleton (Lavon), of Uniontown, Kansas and three sisters, Carrie Elbrader, Ark City, Kansas, Lois Cooney, Frontenac, Kansas and Donna Davidson Williams, Uniontown, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly Ann Horn, a sister, Carolyn Rourk, and his parents.

 

Rev. Marty DeWitt will conduct graveside services at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 19th at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Masonic rites will also be conducted.

The family will receive friends on Sunday at the Cheney Witt Chapel from Noon until leaving for the cemetery at 1:30 P.M.

Obituary of Clinton A. Patton

Clinton Alex Patton

Clinton Alex Patton, age 73, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas died Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at his home.

He was born July 20, 1946, in Lackey, Kentucky, the son of Clint Patton and Gladys Ratcliff Patton.

Clinton graduated from Garfield High School in 1963.

He married Sharon Frost on April 15, 1965 in Hamilton, Ohio.

He worked as a driver for the Railway Crew Express.

He enjoyed watching sporting events especially, Kentucky Wildcat basketball, Cincinnati Reds baseball, and the Florida State Seminoles football teams.

He loved spending time with family especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Survivors include his wife Sharon of the home; two daughters, Theresa Patton, of Ft. Scott, and Ronni Folden, of Eldorado, Kansas; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers Robert, Elmer, and Otis Patton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and several brothers and sisters.

There was cremation.

Burial will take place at a later date at a cemetery in Kentucky.

Obituary of Stephen P. Farley

Stephen Patrick  Farley

Stephen Patrick Farley, age 65, a resident of Nevada, MO, passed away on Monday, July 6th, 2020, at Medical Lodge nursing home in Ft. Scott, KS, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on February 23rd, 1955 in Kansas City, MO. Stephen was born Steven Brown, one of seven children, to Francis “Bud” Brown and Agnes “Rose” Murphy. Steven was adopted by John Daniel “Danny” and Mary Helen “Helen” Farley of Brashear, MO. His name was changed to Stephen “Steve” Patrick Farley.

Steve attended High School at Adair County RII, where he graduated in 1973. After graduation, Steve proudly served in the US Navy and later in the National Guard.

Steve’s true love was farming and that is where he returned after his time in the service.

Steve married Amy Miller in 1980 and from that marriage, was blessed with four children.

Recently Steve was able to locate some of his birth family and over the last few years, he was able to connect and build a relationship with one brother and multiple nieces and nephews.

Steve enjoyed farming, helping others, fishing, and most of all being with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his four children, John and wife Tara Farley of Ft. Scott, KS; Kevin and wife Ashley Farley of Paola, KS; LuAnne and husband Todd Granere of Iola, KS; and son Ralph Farley of Kansas City, KS. Seven grandchildren, Teryn Farley, Lakyn Farley, Colin Farley, Jyler Granere, Gavin Granere, Bodhi Farley ,and Charlee Granere; ex-wife Amy Free of Osawatomie, KS; multiple nieces and nephews and several members of his birth family.

There was a cremation. Burial will take place in the U.S. National Cemetery in Ft. Scott at a later date, as well as a memorial service with family and friends.

Obituary of Verlee Logue

Verlee Ann Logue, age 82, resident of Ashland, MO, died Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at Ashland Villa, Ashland, MO.

She was born April 6, 1938, in Shelby County, IA, the daughter of Adolph and Celma Rassamen Breining.

She married Veral Dean Sorensen in 1955. They later divorced. She married Edwin Logue on December 31, 1977, in Atlantic, IA.

Ed preceded her in death on June 26, 2005.

Verlee ran the KOA Campground in Ft. Scott. She later worked at Best Western Inn.

She greatly enjoyed visiting with people traveling and getting reacquainted when they returned. She loved flowers, dogs, kids, and relaxing at the lake. She watched her hummingbird feeders and wren houses every day. Verlee relished her time visiting with friends.

Survivors include five sons, Kendall Logue, Ft. Scott; Winn Logue, Kimballton, IA; Dale Sorensen, Portsmith, IA; Randy Sorensen, Irwin, IA; and Scott Sorensen, Centralia, MO; two daughters, Terri Jensen, Kimballton, IA;  and Laurie Uehling, Harrisburg, MO.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband Ed, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Breining; a sister, Velma “Tootie” Book; and her parents.

Obituary of Verdon H. Dauben

Verdon Howard Dauben, age 82, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas went to meet his Lord and Savior Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born May 13, 1938, in Ft. Scott, the son of Howard Dauben and Edith Stephan Dauben.

Verdon graduated from the Ft. Scott High School.  He married Chelsa Travis on September 11, 1959, at Ft. Scott.

Verdon’s father passed away when Verdon was six.  As a result, Verdon was no stranger to hard work.  At a young age, he worked as a farmhand and often worked several part-time jobs.

Later, Verdon along with Gerald Boone owned and operated Boone & Dauben Drive-In located on National Avenue in Ft. Scott.  Boone & Dauben opened on July 15, 1963.  Verdon stayed active with the business until his retirement in 2003.

In addition, Verdon served for eight years with the Kansas Army National Guard.   He enjoyed camping and reading as well as spending time with his family.  He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

 

Survivors include his wife, Chelsa, of the home; his daughter, Joyce Larsen and husband, Steve, of Springfield, Missouri and his son, Joe Dauben and wife, Angie, of Colorado.  Also surviving are six grandchildren, Arlie Diederich (Ryan), Jarett Dauben (Whitney), Ty Larsen, Travis Larsen (Beth), Ben Gettler (Ashley) and Dakotah Gettler and eight great-grandchildren, Amaya, Mason, Maggie, Colt, Molly, Case, Gus and Patton.

Verdon was preceded in death by his parents, a great-granddaughter, Gabriella, two brothers, Billy and David Dauben and a sister, Mary Allen.

 

Private graveside services will be held Saturday, July 11th at the Clarksburg Cemetery.

Obituary of Karen Mabery Atkins

Karen (Mabery) Atkins formerly of Fort Scott passed away suddenly on June 23, 2020 in Nixa, Missouri.

Karen was born March 15, 1949 in Fort Scott, Kansas, the only child to Frank and Faye (Duncan) Mabery. She graduated from Fort Scott High School with the Class of 1967.

She lived and worked in Fort Scott until 2002 when she moved to Nixa, Missouri to help with the family business, Atkins Weatherproofing in Springfield, Missouri, along with her children and husband, she worked and help run the business until her untimely death.

She loved car racing, sports and spending time with her family.

She became interested in The Alzheimer’s Association when her cousin was diagnosed. Karen helped organize the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Abilene, Texas and for the yearly auction she made a special quilt that hangs in the office in Abilene TX.

She was also interested in family history, traveling, and she made a lifelong wish trip to Ireland.

Karen was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Frank Lee and Faye Mabery. Karen was a devoted daughter and caretaker to her parents in their later years.

Karen leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband, Wayne, and her children all of Nixa, Missouri: Karalee Taylor (John Lowe) and Frank Atkins, grandchildren, Kelby Taylor, Madison Shelden, and Tru Atkins, great-grandchild, Sophie Taylor, Taxen and Asher Cosens. She, also, leaves behind her lifelong friends and cousins who will cherish a lifetime of memories.

Karen grew up with an idyllic childhood in Fort Scott surrounded by doting parents and a huge extended family, including incredible aunts, uncles, and cousins. She enjoyed dozens of close friends and a loving relationship with her cousins. She was blessed with small town, rural hometown living where she and friends could explore the streets and countryside of Fort Scott on horseback.

Karen was an avid animal lover and her family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the donate to C.A.R.E Rescue Animal Shelter or the Missouri Forget-Me-Not-Horse Rescue and Sanctuary, and may be sent to or left in the care of Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, Kansas 66701.

Obituary of Grace Myers

Grace Earlene Myers, age 96, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Wednesday, July 01, 2020, at Guest Home Estates in Ft. Scott.

She was born January 15, 1924, in Sprague, MO, the daughter of Rev. Earl R. Bingham and Susan Pickford Bingham.

She graduated from Fulton, KS High School in 1942 and attended Fort Scott Junior College. She taught school for several years in Bourbon and Linn counties.

On June 1, 1949, she was married to Oscar Otto Myers of Niangue, MO, at the home of her parents near Devon, KS. They lived in the Bourbon county area until 1950 when they moved to Marysville, KS, where Grace went to work for Selective Service.

They later moved to Emporia, and then to Olathe, KS, in 1961 and lived there until they retired in 1970.

After retirement they moved back to their farm near Devon.

Oscar and Grace celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 1, 1999. Oscar passed away on June 26, 1999.

Grace and Oscar enjoyed their retirement years on their farm where they cared for their cattle, pets, and garden.

Grace was a long time member of the Mapleton Christian Church . She received her 75 year membership pin from Violet Chapter No. 200, Fulton Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law; a nephew and several nieces, cousins, grand nieces and grandnephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a cousin who was raised in her parents’ home from an infant, Earl Inman; and another close cousin, Hazel Beck.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, July 7th in the Good Spring Cemetery, near Niangua, MO.

Obituary of James Picht

James Leon Picht, age 90, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Tuesday, June 30th, 2020, at Medicalodge of Ft. Scott.

He was born February 8, 1930, in Hiattville, KS, the son of Glen Picht and Martha Payne Picht.

Jim attended school in Ft. Scott K-12 and then Fort Scott junior College, and then he attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, KS.

Jim served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War.

He then started his career in teaching. He served the Davenport, IA, school system for forty years as a teacher, then principal, retiring in 1995.

Jim married Joan Beck in 1958 in Davenport, IA, where they were members of St. John’s United Methodist Church. Jim returned to Ft. Scott in November 2018 and attended St. John’s United Methodist Church there.

Survivors include two granddaughters, Rachel Myers, and Rebekah Myers; and son-in-law Rev. Ron Myers. Also surviving are cousins, a nephew, and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joan; a daughter, Rev. Linda Myers; a son, David Picht; and a brother Don Picht.

There was cremation.

Private inurnment will take place in the U. S. National Cemetery, Ft. Scott. Memorial services will be held at a later to be announced date at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Ft. Scott.
