Obituary Of Carol Welch
Carol Louise (Meme) Welch, age 77, a former resident of Fort Scott, and more recently of Overland Park, Kansas, died Sunday, April 29, 2018 at St. Luke’s South Hospital.
She was born December 14, 1940, in Fort Scott, Kansas the daughter of Victor Carpenter and Lucille Willey Carpenter.
Carol was a 1958 graduate of Fort Scott High School. She attended Pittsburg State College. She was previously employed by American States Insurance in Overland Park.
She married Denny O. D. Welch Jr. on August 29, 1987, in Overland Park.
Her joy was spending time with grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Denny O.D. (Papa) Welch; five sons, O. D. Welch III and wife Melody, Chet Shellenberger, Stephen Shellenberger and wife Chris, Chuck Welch and wife Elizabeth, and Daniel Shellenberger; one daughter, Karin Shellenberger. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren; Lacey, Joseph, Lauren, Taylor, Kelsea, Phillip, Emma, Ashlyn, Victoria, Peyton, Charles, Meghan, Gabriel, and Oliver.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, CPL Nicholas Gomez.
Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 5th, in the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Obituary for Pauline Stoughton Beeler
Pauline Stoughton Beeler, age 95, a resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Sunday, April 29, 2018, at the Mercy Hospital Emergency Room.
She was born August 4, 1922, in Mapleton, KS, the daughter of Frederick and Mary Faulhaber Stoughton. She attended Mapleton grade school, Blue Mound High, and Ft. Scott Junior College.
Pauline worked in both the offices of Key Overall factory and Kansas Utilities.
She married Dale Warren in November 1942, one year after they met. From 1943 through 1947 they lived in Manhattan, KS, and their first two children, Gary and Pat were born. Dale graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dale’s father was a veterinarian and his son Stephen also received his veterinary degree from KSU 25 years later. Dale died in 1952 in a small airplane accident near Fulton, KS.
Pauline remarried Norbert Beeler (Bud) in 1953. Pauline’s fourth child, Rebecca, was born in 1954 on her mother’s birthday in Tacoma, WA, where Bud was stationed in the Army.
The family moved to Prairie Village, KS, where they lived 20 years. Bud spent that time employed by Stine & McClure funeral home. In 1973, they moved back to Fort Scott, owning and managing Cheney’s Chapel funeral home (now Cheney Witt Chapel). Bud retired in 1989 and died as a result of Parkinson’s disease in 2004.
Pauline is survived by her four children, Gary Michael Warren and wife Charlene, Patricia Pauline Morris and husband Jim, Stephen Dale Warren and wife Patti, and Rebecca Ann Beatson and husband Jim; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and five siblings; Bernice Lawrence, and Raymond, Milton, Sheldon, and Ellis Stoughton; two husbands, Dale Martin Warren and Norbert Joseph Beeler; and her granddaughter Frances Elizabeth Warren (1985).
There was cremation.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, May 25, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Obituary Of Rodney Paul Morter
Rodney Paul Morter, age 85, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas, passed away early Thursday, April 26, 2018, at the Pittsburg Care and Rehab Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.
He was born February 21, 1933, in Ainsworth, Nebraska, the son of Paul Frederick Morter and Lila Thompson Morter.
At an early age, Rod enlisted in the United States Army. He faithfully served his country for twenty-two years. While with the Army he was stationed in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam as well as bases in the United States.
Following his retirement from the military, Rod settled in Newberg, Oregon. He worked as a truck driver for various trucking companies for the next six years.
In 2008, he relocated to Ft. Scott, Kansas. He enjoyed basketball and was a great fan of the Portland Trail Blazers. He also enjoyed being outdoors spending time fishing and horseback riding. He also liked to attend flea markets and auctions.
Survivors include his four children, Roderick Morter and wife, Janice, of Ft. Scott, Debra Morter-Womelsdorf and husband, Kevin, of Ft. Scott, Linh Sue Cady, of Vancouver, Washington and Joni Morter, of Lawrence, Kansas; twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and his former wife, Teresa Munroe, of Lawrence, Kansas. Also surviving are two sisters, Ramona and Eldoris.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Elijah Doherty, a brother, Harry and a sister, Joann.
Rev. Kevin Moyers will conduct graveside services at 1:30 P.M. Monday, April 30th at the U. S. National Cemetery.
Full military honors will be conducted by the U. S. Army Honor Guard. Friends and family will meet at the cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Ft. Scott, Kansas. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.

Obituary of EARL V. “VIC” JADLOW, JR.
Vic Jadlow left Earth for his heavenly home on Saturday, April 21, 2018.
He was born in Nevada, MO, on October 30, 1940, to Earl and Marge Jadlow. He graduated high school in Ft. Scott, KS, with the class of 1958. He married Sally Margaret Freeman in June of 1962 in Ft. Scott.
Vic owned and operated Jadlow Dental Laboratory in Prairie Village, KS, for 47 years. His favorite pastimes included farming as well as acquiring and restoring antique tractors. He was active in many area tractor organizations including the Midwest Ford Fordson Collectors Association.
Survivors include Sally, his wife of nearly 56 years; and four children, Jennifer Karr, Trey Jadlow, Sara Nissen and husband Scott, and Joshua Jadlow. Grandchildren include Jordan Karr and wife MacKinzie, Brooke Karr, Gunnar Karr, Victor Jadlow IV, Louis Jadlow, Keilah Jadlow, Kristen Jadlow, Katarina Jadlow, Tony Jadlow, Kate Nissen, Sam Nissen, Abe Nissen, Caroline Nissen, and Clare Nissen. Also, surviving is one brother, Tom Jadlow and wife Mary Lynne of Salina, KS; and one sister, Karen Smith and husband Doug of Pleasanton, KS.
Services will be held at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 137th, and Rosehill, Overland Park, KS, on Friday, April 27, 2018.
Visitation will be at 9:30 AM with services following at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Nevada, MO, following lunch at the church. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to either Colonial Presbyterian Church or Kansas City Hospice which may be left in the care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, PO Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701. Obituary Of Ronald Button
Ronald “Ronnie” Button, age 80, a resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Friday, April 20, 2018, at his home.
He was born June 2, 1937, in Ft. Scott, the son of Merle and Mable Dunham Button.
He married Betty Jean Kutina on January 17, 1955, in Ft. Scott. Ronnie jointly owned and operated Button’s Salvage Yard for over 30 years. He also worked at Wal-Mart for 10 years. He could always be located by listening for his whistle.
In their younger years, Ronnie and Betty like to bowl. He collected antiques and pictures of people and places in Ft. Scott and Belltown. He also liked to visit the casinos. He loved spending time with family, especially the grandkids who called him “Poppy”.
Survivors include his wife Betty of the home; three children, Johnny Button of the home, Teresa Vanderpool and husband John, Uniontown, KS, and Cheryl Russell and husband Larry, Ft. Scott; seven grandchildren, Michael, Justin, and Nick Russell, Josh and Cody Vanderpool, Menda Candido, and Kayla Bunnel; eight great- grandchildren; siblings Ralph “Pewee” Button and wife Charlotte, Ft. Scott, Merlene Button, Ft. Scott, Mary Button, Ft. Scott, Donnie Ray Button, Ft. Scott, and Judy Snow and husband Larry, Mapleton, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobbie Button; five sisters, infant Patsy Button, Tammy Meriman, Shirley Armstrong, Bonnie Phillips and Patty Smith; granddaughter, Melissa Lynn Russell; and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 25th, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from1:00 until service time Wednesday prior to the service. Obituary Of Joan Dickson
She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Dickson; her parents, Dr. Charles and Wilma Mosley; and her sister, Helen Louise Dix.
Joan is survived by her nephew, Steven Dix (Nancy); and her cousins, Marjorie Midili and Conrad Mowrey (Jean).
Joan worked for the U.S. government until her retirement. She loved all animals, especially cats. Two of her favorite ones, Harry and Mia, also preceded her in death, and she dearly missed them. Joan knew that animals if treated fairly, would only return love and loyalty a lesson she wished all would better learn.
Joan was a Master Gardener and was frequently consulted for her advice on gardens, flowers, trees, and grasses. If she didn’t know the answer, she would research it and quickly get back to you.
Joan fought through a number of adversities throughout her life, never complaining about any and always rising above them. Even various cancers found an especially formidable opponent in Joan. She was a strong woman. Bitterness and anger were never part of Joan’s life, rather she presented kindness, a caring way, dependability and fairness combined with an interesting sense of humor.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 26th at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ft Scott, Kansas. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. Obituary Of Eleanor Lucile Quick
Eleanor Lucile Quick, age 80, a resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died early Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Presbyterian Village, Ft. Scott.
She was born on May 17, 1937, in Redfield, KS, the daughter of James and Iris Wilson Endicott.
She married Dennis “Denny” Quick on January 23, 1960, in Ft. Scott. When not caring for the family at home, Lucile cleaned house for area residents for over 30 years. She loved spending time with her family. She was quite good at cooking for them, with her specialty being a chocolate sheet cake. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband Denny, Ft. Scott; two sons, Phil Quick and wife Jennifer, Ft. Scott, and Rick Quick, Ft. Scott; four grandchildren, Zach Quick, Gabe Quick, Peyton O. Quick, and Taylor Quick Brasfield; three great-grandchildren, Sidney Logan, Layne A. Quick, and Oktavea Brasfield; siblings, Alice Fink, Marilyn Ward, Irmal Hughes, James Endicott, Robert Endicott, and J.W. “Jingles” Endicott; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by siblings Lavern Harrison, Mary Lee Heathman, Carol Ybarra, Leona Kramer, and Wayne Endicott.
Dave Nickelson will conduct funeral services at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 24th, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery.

Nadine Louise “Dee” Moderhak, 88, of Fort Scott, passed away Wednesday morning, April 18, 2018, at the Franklin House.
She was born August 5, 1929, in Denver, Colorado, and was the adopted daughter of Harry K. and Maude Cleva (Hardin) DuVall.
She married Gordon Moderhak May 30, 1964, in Westminster, Colorado. He preceded her in death September 23, 2006.
Dee bequeathed her body to the KU School of Medicine, and she requested that there be no services.
