Obituary of William E. Griffths

William E. Griffiths, age 70, resident of Bronaugh, MO, died Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Medicalodge Nevada, MO.

He was born September 24, 1949, in Wichita, KS, the son of Harold “H.W.” and Betty Jane Wunderly Griffiths. He graduated from Bronaugh high school with the class of 1968.

Bill operated his own trucking company. He was a member of the IH Collectors Chapter #3 and Riverside Cowboy Church. He enjoyed raising cattle.

Survivors include two daughters, Angela Griffiths, Bronaugh, MO, and Melissa McCartney, Carthage, MO; three brothers, Robert Griffiths and wife Shanna, David Griffiths, and Donald Griffiths; two sisters, Carol Claflin and friend Winfred DeMott and Joyce Agee and husband Delbert; and three grandchildren, Dakota McCartney, Eli Griffiths, and Baelie Griffiths.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cassandra Griffiths; and his parents.

Pastor Roger Beach will conduct funeral services at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 5th, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Worsley Cemetery, Bronaugh, MO.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday evening at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Obituary of Evelyn L. Feezell

Evelyn Lavonne Feezell, age 80, left for her heavenly home, Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Little, husband, Rod Little and granddaughter, Meagan Little, all of Waco, Texas; her son, James Feezell, of Ft. Scott, Kansas, her brother, Robert Skiles of Buena Park, California and her husband of 59 years, Floyd Feezell, of Ft. Scott.

Evelyn was born July 11, 1939, in Orange, California to Bert and Eva Skiles.

She married Floyd Feezell on March 26, 1960.  During their life together, they lived in California, Washington State and finally in Kansas.

 

Evelyn had a very close, warm and loving relationship with her daughter, son and granddaughter.  She was also a very supportive, devoted and loving wife.

Evelyn loved children in general and during her time in Washington, worked at various daycare facilities.  She was also happy being a housewife and mom.  She enjoyed cooking and was a long-time fan of tv cook shows.

She was fond of all the family animals and was particularly so with her cat, Mischief.

Evelyn was a wonderfully genuine, nice and caring person and all who came to know her invariably held her in loving esteem.

She will be sorely missed.

 

There was cremation.

Obituary of Debra Salami

Debra Sue Salami, age 64, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019, in Joplin, Missouri.

She was born June 16, 1955, in Ft. Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Will Henry Sharp and Alta Marie DeMoss Sharp.

Debra graduated from the Ft. Scott High School and later received an Associates Degree in nursing from Crowder College.  Debra worked in various area nursing homes; most recently facilities located in Springfield and Joplin.

She enjoyed working and in spare time liked to go to garage sales.

Survivors include four sons, Maurice Davis (Veronica), of Frontenac, Kansas, Mohammed Salami, Jr. and Gary Davis, Jr, both of Joplin, Missouri and Gabe Sharp II, of Springfield, Missouri; six grandchildren, Madison, Harper, Meghan, MeKenna, Jwaun, and Alexus and three great-grandchildren, Abigail, Denise and Jordan.

Also surviving are her mother, Alta Sharp Cummings, of Ft. Scott, Kansas; a brother, Kirk Sharp, of Ft. Scott and two sisters, Margaret Holt, of Joplin and Zsa Zsa Williams, of Springfield.

She was preceded in death by her long-time companion, Walter Adams as well as her father, Will Sharp and her sister, Karen Young.

Following cremation, a graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 9th at the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Obituary of Justin Calvert

Justin James Calvert, age 45, of Madison, WI passed away on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. He was born on Sept. 21, 1974, in Girard, Kansas, the son of Douglas Calvert and Marcia (Hughes) O’Neal.

Justin graduated from Caney Valley High School in Caney, Kansas in 1993.

He served in the U. S. Marines from 1995-1999. He moved to Wisconsin in 2003 and married Dr. Mindy Haseleu on May 1, 2011. Justin worked as a finance manager at Smart Motors for the last 12 years.

Justin was a big, tall and muscular guy with an incredibly loving heart. He was very protective of his family and friends. He loved spending time with them and especially relished teasing his nieces and nephew. Justin was very generous, caring and sweet. He was very hard working, dedicated and successful in his job. He loved classic cars and started his collection with a red 1967 Chevelle. His pride and joy was a Verdoro Green 1968 Pontiac GTO, owned by his father-in-law since 1971 and restored in 2017 by his high school friend Scott Mills. Justin and his GTO won numerous awards including Best of Show at multiple shows. He enjoyed working out, watching football, going to car shows, swimming in his pool, collecting anvils and vises, and eating home cooked meals. Many who knew him may not have guessed how much he loved his cats, Bibi and Vitto. Justin was very patriotic and extremely proud of his service in the Marines. He was thrilled to reconnect with his Marine Corps brothers after 20 years.

Justin is survived by his wife, Dr. Mindy Haseleu; his mother, Marcia (Hughes) O’Neal and her husband, Dan; his father, Doug Calvert and his wife, Ilana; his brother, Matt Bowersock; niece, Madison; in-laws, Bob and Beth Haseleu and Vance and Teppy (Haseleu) McCaw; and niece, Rowan and nephew, Lane. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mari-Kate Bowersock; and grandmother, Mary Hughes.

A funeral service was held at Gunderson East Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Following services for Justin in Madison, WI, there will be Cremation, then, Services with Burial at the Fort Scott National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2019 under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Obituary of Walter Earnest Foulk

Walter Earnest Foulk

Walter Earnest Foulk, age 91, resident of Arcadia, KS, died Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.

He was the youngest of seven siblings, born on April 4, 1928, in Arcadia, the son of John and Lydia Moore Foulk.

Walter served in the Army during the Korean War.

He married Mary Alice Lynch in September 1955 and together they had four children (Connie, Lydia, Andrew and Lora).

She preceded in death on September 10, 2018.

He worked in Springfield, MO, beginning at the City Utilities, then Springfield Tablet, and finally for Litton Company.

Walter enjoyed fishing, watching football, tinkering with lawn mowers, and visiting with local friends.

He was a lifetime member of Arcadia American Legion Post #110 and a member of the Arcadia Christian Church.

Survivors include three children, Dorthy Lydia Baker, Springfield, MO, Andrew Foulk, Springfield, MO, and Lora Jean Pratt, West Alton, MO; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son Connie; two brothers, John and Marion Foulk; fours sisters, Emma Suzetta, Violet Wilson, Vida Cullman, and Wanda Tullis; and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 26th, at the Arcadia Christian Church.

Burial will follow in the Sheffield Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Girard American Legion.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Friday at the Cheney Witt Chapel, Fort Scott

Obituary of Eva Mae Byerley

Eva Mae Byerley died on September 26, 2019, rejoining spiritually her husband, Edward, who predeceased her less than a year prior. Eva was born on January 7, 1928, at the family farm near Barnesville, KS, the daughter of Fred E White and Lora A. White (Higbie). She was the youngest of seven children, five girls and two boys.

Eva graduated from Fulton H.S. (KS) in 1945. She married her high school sweetheart, Edward, after his return from active military duty in the Navy in 1946.

Eva was a homemaker and mom extraordinaire to their three sons during the early years of marriage.

In the late 1960’s to mid – 1980’s, Eva worked at The Western Insurance Companies as an automobile rater and in Human Resources.

Eva and Ed retired full time to Sun City West, AZ in 1986, enjoying nearly 30 years of the sunny weather and the activities offered in that retirement community.

Eva was a passionate and competitive amateur bowler, who carried a high average for several years. She also enjoyed playing bocce, cooking, and watching KU basketball games on television.

Eva is survived by three sons, daughter’s-in-law, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Obituary of Charles Hennessey

CHARLES DAVID HESSESSY

Charles (Chuck) David Hennessy, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on August 2, 2019. He was born on May 20, 1939 in Kansas City, Kansas to Gertrude (Shannon) and John Hennessy. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, John.

He served in the United States Marine Corps in the Philippines, earning the rank of E4. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years, starting two Boy Scout troops in the Colorado Springs area. Chuck volunteered with the El Paso County Search and Rescue and enjoyed mountain climbing, including many of the Colorado “14ers” and the twenty-thousand-foot peak of Mt Chimborazo in Ecuador. He was an avid hiker with the Colorado Mountain Club and the American Volkssport Association. Chuck retired from the US Post Office after 30 years of carrying mail.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ilene (Mallett) Hennessy, 4 children, 2 step-children, 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, as well as many friends.

Father Robert McElwee will offer the burial rites at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Fulton, Kansas, 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2019 under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Obituary of BILLIE J. ARBOGAST

 

Billie Jean Arbogast, 54, of Fort Scott, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Guest Home Estates. She was born December 24, 1964, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Forest Eugene and Iona (Crisp) Burns.

Billie is survived by her children, Brandy LeeAnn Thrasher, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Charles Eugene Arbogast of Manteca, California; two grandchildren, David Thrasher, and Colleen Thrasher; a brother, Willis Ward, and a sister, Sue Baird. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Following cremation, Pastor Paul Rooks will conduct memorial services at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at Grace Baptist Tabernacle under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Private family interment services will take place at a later date. Obituary of James Richard Norman

 

James Richard Norman, 66, formerly of Fort Scott, passed away Sunday October 6, 2019, at his home in Winfield, Kansas. He was cremated.

Funeral Services for James Norman will be at 11:30 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Fort Scott National Cemetery with Military Honors presented by Representatives of the United States Marine Corps Funeral Detail.

Obituary of Pauline M. Norris

Pauline Mae Norris, age 94, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at Franklin House Assisted Living in Ft. Scott. She was born May 3, 1925, in Hepler, KS, the daughter of Charles Oscar Cowan and Grace Olive Boileau Cowan. She graduated from Blue Mound high school with the class of 1942.

Pauline married Everett Wayne “Soapy” Norris on May 19, 1946, in Mapleton, KS. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1995.

When younger, she worked for Key Work Clothes as well as helping on the family dairy farm in Devon, KS. They moved to Ft. Scott in 1986. Pauline enjoyed making rag rugs.

She was a member of the Devon United Methodist Church where she was very active in earlier years. She later transferred to First United Methodist in Ft. Scott.

Survivors include her son Jeff Norris and wife Vera, Ft. Scott; two sisters, Charlene Bruns, Ft. Scott, and Mary Dahmer, Nevada, MO; a brother, Bill Cowan and wife Norma, Nevada, MO; three grandchildren, Lindsey Norris, Ft. Scott, Sara Wells and husband Eric, Lawrence, KS, and Paul Norris and wife Cierra, Lecompton, KS; thgreat-grandchildrendren, Sebastian, Remy and Oaklee; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bradley Norris; four sisters, Metta Walker and husband Mark, Irmal Smith and husband Louis, Ruth Walker and husband Jake, and Opal Brillhart and husband Ed; a brother Floyd “Buck” Cowan; brothers-in-law Glenn “Plute” Dahmer and Maurice Bruns; and her parents.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, October 19th, in the Mapleton Cemetery, Mapleton, KS.

The family will gather at the Cheney Witt Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery at 10:00.

Obituary of Margaret Maris Haas

Margaret Marie Haas was born on September 3, 1924, to Charles and Pearl Niemeir in Bourbon County, Kansas.  She was the eighth of ten children.  Marie attended Center School through the 8th grade and graduated from Fort Scott High School, Fort Scott, Kansas in 1942.   As a  young girl, Marie’s family began attending church services at the First Christian Church in Ft. Scott, Kansas.   At the age of 15, Marie accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized on October 29, 1939.

 

After graduating from high school, Marie worked as a secretary for the Western Insurance Company in Fort Scott, Kansas.  On June 17, 1945, Marie married Raymond G. Haas (Electrician’s Mate, Second Class Navy) at the First Christian Church in Fort Scott, Kansas, and together they had three children, Esther Ann Jenkins (Randy) of Lancaster, PA, Steven Ray Haas (Sandra) of Riley, Kansas, and Ronald Charles Haas (Sandra) of Birmingham, Alabama.  Marie and Raymond were married for 64 years until his death in September of 2009.

 

Together, Raymond and Marie lived a full life in the Fort Scott area where they farmed and raised their children.   Marie and Raymond were extensively involved in their church at Bethel Community Baptist Church.  During their retirement years, Raymond spent much of his time helping his neighbors in need while Marie enjoyed babysitting and working with the Awana program at Bethel where she assisted the young children with learning Bible verses.  Marie and Raymond also enjoyed traveling and visiting their children and grandchildren. In 2007, Raymond and Marie moved to Birmingham, Alabama to live with their youngest son Ron Haas due to the declining health of Raymond.  After Raymond’s death, Marie remained in Birmingham until April of 2019.  While in Birmingham, Marie was faithful to attend Glen Iris Baptist Church.

 

Marie was lovingly known as “Granny” to her family and many, many others both young and old.  She was known for her sweet smile that could be easily transformed into a giggle by the antics of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.  Marie loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and wouldn’t miss the opportunity to be present for any sporting event or music recital in which they participated. Marie leaves a legacy of quiet faithfulness and service to her family, friends, and to her Savior.  She will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her.

 

Marie passed away at the age of 95 on October 13, 2019.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond G. Haas, four brothers and four sisters.  Marie is survived by one sister, Lois Hixon of Denver, Colorado, three children, twelve grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. Friday, October 18th at the Cheney Witt Chapel.  Burial will follow in the      U. S. National Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to the Bethel Community Baptist Church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Obituary of Pansy Viola “Diana” Tucker

Pansy Viola “Diana” Tucker, age 82, formerly of Ft. Scott, KS, more recently of Shreveport, LA, died early Monday, October 14, 2019, at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS. She was born September 10, 1937 in Ontario, OH. The daughter of Harry Albert Danals and Pansy Viola Rutter. She married Carl Dean “Tink” Tucker, on February 6, 1953 in Largo, FL, he preceded her in death. Pansy worked for Peerless products for several years, but most of her career was spent as an over the road truck driver. Her favorite seasons were fall and the Christmas season. She enjoyed traveling, casinos, fishing, and going country cruising. Pansy’s enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Brenda Prudhomme, and husband Budd, Shreveport, LA., Rick Tucker, and wife Tedena, Fort Scott, Teresa Giddens, and husband Randy, of Fort Scott, and, Doug Tucker, Branson, Mo.; thirteen grandchildren, Melissa “Missy” Mendenhall, David Bruce Prudhomme, Stephanie Anthony, Heather Engstrom, Michelle Call, Mandy Giddens, Laramie Giddens, Mariah Tucker, Emily Tucker, Phoenix Tucker, Danny Tucker, Russell Shadden, and John Shadden; fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Zelda Thomas, Largo, FL., and Linda Clark, Pinellas Park, FL.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by ,her husband “Tink”; a daughter, Tammy Louise Tucker; her parents; five brothers, Wilbur, Dick, Albert, Wayne, and Everett Danals, four sisters, Orthella Danals, Jacqueline Wilson, Betty Briner, and Mary Ellen Patton.

Funeral services will be held 12:30 PM Monday, October 21, 2019 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery.
