Obituary of Roger Kent Lee

Roger Kent Lee, age 67, a former resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019, at the Citizens Memorial Health Care in Bolivar, Missouri. He was born September 23, 1951, in Ft. Scott, Kansas, the son of Frank James Lee and Mary Virginia Sheehy Lee. Roger accumulated many friends while attending primary school in Prescott, Kansas. His family later moved to Pittsburg, Kansas where Roger graduated from high school in 1969. Roger was extremely active in sports, particularly basketball and track. Roger held the PHS and State Records for the mile run at 4 minutes and 23.5 seconds. The PHS record still stands today. He married Linda Spencer on February 6, 1971, at Ft. Scott. Roger worked as an assistant manager for Hammond Seed & Grain for twenty years. He later retired from Bourbon County where he worked as a field appraiser. He was active with the Army Reserve for several years. Roger was an avid sportsman throughout his life. He loved hunting and fishing and shared this passion with his many buddies in the Hammond Community. He loved catching catfish . . . the bigger the better, and if asked where he caught them his reply was always “In the mouth” or “In the water.” Roger shared many a fishing story with whoever wanted to listen. The fish continued to grow bigger each time the story was told. Roger’s other passions were his garden and his grandchildren. Roger spent many hours country cruising with his grandkids “thinking” they were driving and singing songs at the top of their lungs.

Survivors include his former wife and friend, Linda, of Ft. Scott; his son, Thomas Lee of Joplin, Missouri and his daughter, Nicole Lee, of Pittsburg, Kansas. He is also survived by the “lights of his life,” – the grandkids; three grandsons, Spencer Lee, Alex Lee VanLeeuwen and Kane Shepard and his “baby girls”, Ivy Kaie Lee and KynLee Rose Lee. Also surviving is his brother, Kevin Lee of Bolivar, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Frank Lee, Jr. and two sisters, Debbie Applegate and Diana Deere.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 20th at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery. After services at the cemetery, a reception will be held at the Hammond Community Building. Obituary of Jason Bolinger

JASON WAYNE BOLINGER, age 39, of Fort Scott, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 14, 2019, after a lengthy battle with brain cancer, at the home of his parents, Robert and Cherie Collins, where he resided.

He was born March 1, 1980 in Fort Scott, Kansas. He attended Uniontown and Fort Scott schools. Jason worked construction his entire life. Jason’s passion was hunting and he was a dedicated bowhunter.

Survivors include his parents of the home, Robert & Cherie Collins; two sons, Austin Bolinger of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Barret Bolinger of Fort Scott, Kansas; a brother, Jimmy Bolinger and family of Uniontown,Kansas; a sister, Brandi McCarty and family of Marion, Kansas, and three stepsisters, Melinda Morgan and family of Goddard, Kansas, Melissa Wise and husband of Fort Scott, Kansas, and Meredith Anstine and husband of Chilhowee, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his biological father, Alan Kibble.

Following cremation, Father Yancey Burgess willl conduct graveside services 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas, under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.

Obituary of Hudson Bagnall

Hudson Crew Bagnall, 16 day old son of Nathan and Lisa Bagnall, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 28,2019, in Overland Park, Kansas.  Survivors include his parents, Nathan and Lisa Bagnall; his brother, Nathan and three sisters, Ashlynn, Addisyn and Bradleigh.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, June 19th at the Cheney Witt Chapel.  Cremation will follow services.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Obituary of Kenna Elliott

Kenna Kay Elliott, age 57, a resident of Ft. Scott, KS, passed away Friday, June 14, 2019, at the Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg, KS.

She was born March 24, 1962, in Ft. Scott, the daughter of Charles Raymond Wilson and Sharon Kay Simons Miller and George Kepley Miller.

She married Charles Ernest Elliott, Jr. on June 1, 1979, at the Nazarene Church in Ft. Scott. Kenna worked for many years as a nurse and later in life became a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and maintaining her home and land with Charlie and took great pride in the beauty of their home.

Survivors include her husband Charlie of the home; three daughters, Candace Martin and husband Anthony; Rachelle Smith; and Kayla Hall and husband Dustin, all of Ft. Scott; eight grandchildren, Alyssa Martin, Konner Kim, Logan Smith, Gavin Smith, Mallorie Hall, Libbie Hall, Grayson Hall and MaKenna Martin. Also surviving are two sisters, Jennifer Lemley and husband Jeff, Arlington, TX, and Denise Miller and husband Bryan Baker, Tallahassee, FL; a brother John Miller and wife Lori Reesor, Middleton, WI; and her mother, Sharon Miller and adopted father George Miller.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Raymond Wilson; and a brother, Charles Raymond (Poncho) Wilson, II.

Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 18th, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Obituary of Jack Scott

Jack Edward Scott, age 94, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019, at the Medicalodge of Ft. Scott.

He was born January 22, 1925, in Ft. Scott, the son of William Marcus Scott and Mary Frances Buchanan Scott.

Jack attended Fort Scott Schools.  His senior year of High School, he enlisted with the United States Marine Corps.  During World War II, Jack was stationed in the South Pacific and served on the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima.  He was in special troops. On invasion, his regiment would separate native people from the Japanese.  He also served on military police duty.  Following his time in the Marine Corps, Jack returned to Kansas and continued his education at Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg.

This is where he met the love of his life, Pauline Louise Moody.  Jack and Pauline were married December 21, 1947, at Cherokee, Kansas.

Jack went on to earn a Master’s Degree and Education Specialist Degree.  He served as principal in several Kansas school districts, primarily Burlington, for twenty-seven years.  Following his career in education, he served for three terms as the Coffey County Clerk; this was during the construction and completion of the Wolf Creek Power Plant.

Jack and Pauline later moved to Ft. Scott and spent winters in Texas.

  Jack was a member of the Rising Sun Lodge #8 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Consistory and the Mirza Shrine.  In earlier years, he was involved in Cub Scouts and later served as Scout Master.  He attended the Presbyterian Church of Ft. Scott.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Rhynerson and husband, Charles, Jr., of LaCygne, Kansas; and three sons, Jack Gregory Scott, of Colville, Washington, and David Louis Scott, of Thornfield, Missouri and Steven Edward Scott (Dunn) and wife, Kathi, of San Diego, California; a granddaughter, Kaysie Rhynerson; five grandsons, Rob and Matt Scott and Andy, Tim and Danny Dunn and two great-grandsons, Kia and Allen.

His wife, Pauline, preceded him in death on December 3, 2014.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn Oliver Scott and Frank William Scott.

Graveside services with Military honors and Masonic rites will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 13th at the U. S. National Cemetery.

Family and friends may meet at the Cheney Witt Chapel on Thursday prior to leaving for the cemetery at 10:45 A.M.

Obituary of Irene Schooley

Irene Clara Schooley

Irene Clara Schooley, age 87, a resident of rural Walnut, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 7, 2019, at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas.

She was born July 4, 1931, near Hepler, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Grannemann and Amanda Kroenke Grannemann.

She married Warren Schooley on April 27, 1952, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hepler.

Irene worked for many years as secretary at the Uniontown High School. In addition to working at the school, she also helped her husband with the work on their farm. She always grew a large garden to provide for the needs of her family. She also enjoyed sewing and often made clothes for her daughters. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hepler.

Survivors include her husband, Warren and her two daughters, Jan Reimer and husband, Cal, of Topeka, Kansas and Bev Nelson and husband, Rod, of Ft. Scott, Kansas; six grandchildren, Seth Reimer (Jennifer), Kelly Reimer (Natasha), Cassi Kuhn (Scott), Stacy Jackson (Chris), Kristen Pope (Dustin), and Blake Nelson (Cori) and thirteen great-grandchildren, J. T., Kinslee, Anton, Alisa, Hunter, Makenzie, Brooklyn, Mason, Kaden, Kennedy and triplets, Maddox, Zander, and Bryson who share their birthday of July 4th with their great-grandmother. Also surviving are two sisters, Ella and Helen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ben and two sisters, Selma and Florence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 12th at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Obituary of Patsy Franklin

Patsy Elaine Franklin, age 80, a resident of Gardner, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at the St. Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas.  She was born June 26, 1938, in Prescott, Kansas, the daughter of Vernon Richard Carrel and Esther Alice McAlister Carrel.  Pat graduated from the Prescott High School, Ft. Scott Community College and later received her BS in Education from Pittsburg State University.  She married Gary Wayne Franklin on December 29, 1972.  After completing college, Pat taught school in both Hume and Metz, Missouri.  She worked as a habilitation supervisor for the Missouri Department of Mental Health at the Nevada State Hospital and retired January 1, 2002, after twenty-four years of employment.   In addition to working at the hospital, she also worked weekends as the night clerk at the Best Western Hotel in Ft. Scott.  After retirement, she went back to work as a special education teacher in Gardner, Kansas.  She attended the Hume Christian Church and had been a past member of the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed cooking, dancing and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Lynn Plain and wife, Kathi, of Ft. Scott, Kansas, Candy Duarte and husband, Manuel, of Spring Hill, Kansas, Tammy Locke and husband, Kevin, of Gardner, Kansas and Polly Plain and her beloved dogs Sheba and Tut, of Gardner, Kansas with whom Patsy had made her home; step-daughter, Jenny Franklin, of Nashville, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren, Deidre Hof, Jeffrey Plain (Courtney), Levi Locke (Mini), Shyan Locke, Ali Duarte, April Maxwell, Logan Maxwell, Ricky Duarte (Ashley), Elizabeth Schiller (Joe), Rachel Duarte and Nick Duarte (Amanda) and nine great-grandchildren, Olivia, Cassidy, Casen, Ella, Audrina, Oliver, Dexter, Eden and Ayla.  Also surviving are her step-mother, Anna Mae Carrel, of Nevada, Missouri, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Her husband, Gary, preceded her in death on October 2, 2009.  She was also preceded in death by her brother Lawrence Carrel and a great-granddaughter, Alex.

Obituary of Audrey Frantz

 

Audrey E. Frantz, 97, of Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at her home.

She was the wife of the late Franklin A. “Buck” Frantz who passed away in 2001.

Born September 3, 1921, in Arcadia, Kansas, she was a daughter of the late James Herbert and Francis Elizabeth (Horn) McDaniel.

Audrey was a 1939 graduate of Fort Scott High School in Fort Scott, Kansas, and a 1941 graduate of Woodrow Wilson Junior College. She worked in the accounting department of the Continental Insurance Co. in Chicago, Illinois for forty years.

She was a member of Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church and she loved to write poetry.

Audrey is survived by a nephew, Wayne Winterberg of Midlothian, Illinois, and by her “adopted granddaughter”, Olga Schillinger.

Following services in Pennsylvania on Friday, May 31, 2019, at the Kresge Funeral Home, Audrey will be entombed next to her husband Buck in Rosebank Cemetery in Mulberry, Kansas under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home in Fort Scott, Kansas. Obituary of Dean Ellis

 

Dean M. Ellis, 65, a resident of Eugene, Oregon, died June 1, 2019, in Fort Scott, Kansas. He was born to Mark and Barbara Ellis April 3, 1954, in San Francisco, California, where he grew up and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School.

He moved to Eugene, Oregon in the early 1980’s. He worked in a number of restaurants in San Francisco, Santa Maria, and Eugene, Oregon.

Dean is survived by his brothers, Richard Ellis and wife Judith Nishimori, of Santa Maria, California, and Carl Ellis and wife Sandra, of Fort Scott, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Barbara Ellis.

Obituary of Marilyn Gibson Blincoe

 

Marilyn Gibson Blincoe passed away on Saturday, April 27 at her home in Lodi, CA. She was taken up into the arms of God her Heavenly Father.


Marilyn Louise Gibson was born to Carl and Nina Gibson on September 20, 1929, in LaCrosse, Kansas. She grew up in Dighton, Hays, and Lawrence. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority at the University of Kansas. She met her husband, Robert Melville Blincoe, at the university. They were married January 27, 1950, in the First Christian Church of Lawrence.

Marilyn began taking care of foster babies in Seattle in 1958. She dedicated herself to providing a loving home for more than 250 babies. This was her life mission for more than five decades, first in Seattle and then in Burlingame, Atherton, and Lodi, CA.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 69 years and her children Robert Alan (Jan), Carl (Susan), Mark (Cyndi), Kris and Nicole, as well as 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Daughter Patricia Louise Jones preceded Marilyn in death. Now Marilyn is reunited with her parents, her brothers Robert Desmond, Carl Dean and Daniel Gibson, and other loved ones who went before her.
