Student Workers Needed At Fort Scott National Historic Site

Fort Scott NHS announces the third year of its youth engagement program and is seeking students to help us this summer.

This is your chance to make the Fort more fun!

We need your ideas and energy to pilot new projects this summer.

Participation is two days a week this July and August.

Create your own project. Gain leadership skills.

The schedule may be flexible to accommodate your other summer commitments. Total compensation is $500.

Job seekers may talk to individual employers during the job fair going on until 2 p.m. today.

The Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce Job Fair is continuing until 2 p.m. today at the Ellis Fine Arts Center at Fort Scott Community College.

Fifteen area employers will many jobs to fill are available to talk to possible employees. There are full and part-time positions available.

A Phi Theta Kappa representative is available to help with resumes, interview skills, and social media usage to secure a job.

Susie Arvidson is the Phi Theta Kappa sponsor at FSCC. She is available today until 2 p.m. to help with interviewing skills, resume preparation and other skills needed to secure a job. Arvidson is the library director at FSCC and can help people during the library hours  8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Herdsman Needed At Foster Dairy

New position open for an assistant herdsman at Foster Dairy of Fort Scott, KS.
We are a progressive dairy looking to continue growth in all areas. Position roles will primarily be in the assistance of managing our milking herd with the use of Lely robotic milkers as well as feeding baby calves and managing overall herd health at all ages.
We milk about 180 cows on 3 robots, have over 400 animals, farm over 500 acres, total acreage over 1000.
Preference will be given to applicants with dairy experience and/or college degree in animal science. Pay based upon experience. Housing not provided, but can assist in locating.

High School Students Sought For Full Time Summer Employment

Fort Scott National Historic Site

Fort Scott National Historic Site is looking for area high school students to apply for the United States Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Crew Member positions for the summer.

Applications must be turned in by April 30 to the FSNHS.

Students must be at least 15 years old at the start of enrollment and not reach age 19 before completion.

“The Fort is looking to hire four high school students full-time, a 40-hour week from Tuesday through Saturday,” Tiffiny Durham, an employee of the fort, told the Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce Thursday at the weekly coffee.

Two males and two females will be hired through the Youth Corps, she said.

“Applications will be thrown into a lottery system,” she said.

The positions will help with different events at the fort.

The start date for the positions is June 18 and will end August 11, according to information provided by Durham. YCC members will be paid minimum wage.

Students will work together as a team to create projects, which will help develop leadership skills, according to the information provided.

In addition to the age restrictions, the following are required:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
  • You must be able to obtain a work permit.
  • You must provide a valid Social Security number or apply for one.
  • You must be able to fulfill the functions of the assigned work with or without reasonable accommodation.
