Friday Free Concerts resume this Friday at 7 p.m. at Common Grounds Coffee Shop, 10 E. Wall. This is a new venue, as prior Friday Free Concerts have been at Heritage Park.

“This Friday is first night of the summer concert series, sponsored by the Fort Scott Chamber Of Commerce,” said organizer Ralph Carlson.  “The featured entertainment will be Rick Hite on vocal and guitar. Rick has been a regular contributor to our Friday night series. The concert will be held at the New Common Grounds Coffee Shop at 7pm Friday night.”

Businesses Interested in Insurance: Survey Due June 11

REMINDER:
Survey due June 11th if interested in a
BCBS Health Insurance Plan through the Chamber if you have at least one part-time employee in addition to yourself.
The Chamber is looking to offer a HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN
to our members!
Businesses/organizations of all sizes
will be eligible from sole proprietors
to large companies.
You must have at least yourself and one other employee,
who is not a spouse, and can be a dependent child,
to be eligible for this plan. Part-time employees working less than 30 hours or more per week are not eligible for the plan, however the owner would still be eligible.

The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to offer another benefit to our members. We are here to help extend your value by attracting and maintaining employees by offering cost-effective, high-quality health solutions to your team.
If completed surveys indicate enough interest for this initiative to move forward, your company will be able to offer a health insurance plan to your employees and their families. With the ever-changing health landscape, buying coverage for themselves and their families has become a challenge, primarily due to changing health care legislation and affordability issues. By offering a group health insurance plan, purchasing through a pool can help overcome some of these challenges, while also providing more benefit rich plans.
Owner/operators are eligible to join an Association Health Plan provided that they have an employee in addition to themselves. This employee does not have to participate or even be eligible to participate in the group health plan, meaning they could be a part-time employee.
Census Info. Needed for Survey
When you complete the survey link above, you will need to enter the basic census information shown below.
You only need to enter the census info. on yourself & any other interested full-time employees you may have so BCBS can put together a proposal with rates and a benefit package for us.
If you only have a part-time employee in addition to yourself, you will still be eligible for the insurance, you just will not need to provide their census information on the survey.
IF you are already on a BCBS plan, but interested in this Association Health Plan as a comparison, we encourage you to go ahead and take the survey. In this case you will not need to provide employee census info., you will just provide your current BCBS group number and they can access the information needed.
The requested census fields are below. If the employee would like a rate for their spouse and/or dependents, you will need the same information on them. I have drafted a form you may use to collect this information from your employees in case this makes it easier for you. This form is just a resource for you, you may collect the information however you would like.

Chamber to host The Destination Creation Course for Businesses, Entrepreneurs and Community Leaders
The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce announces a Destination Creation course will be offered soon to businesses and entrepreneurs. This will be a six-session online course taking place on Tuesdays and Fridays June 16th to July 3rd, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on those days. The course registration fee is normally $245, and through the Chamber’s NetWork Kansas Bourbon County E-Community program the first twelve registrants will be granted $150 each, making the net registration cost only $95.
The course is based on the teachings of Jon Schallert, Destination Business Expert, and will be facilitated by Mat Casner who has been officially trained in this curriculum. The course touts to “Make Your Business Stand Out: Grow Sales, Attract More Customers, and Build a Stronger Business”. Destination Creation is a mini-version of a training Schallert is known for, Destination BootCamp, which he hosts in Colorado several times per year. The training is for business owners, retailers, entrepreneurs thinking of starting a business, or a community leader interested in learning the strategies of creating a Consumer Destination. The training is for business owners who want to accelerate their learning curve, receive instruction, strategies and specific tactics on how to become a dominate Destination Business that can pull consumers past your competition.

Chamber Coffee Restarts This Thursday at Sunshine Boutique

The business has entrances at both 2 S. Main St. and 18 E. Wall St.
This event will take place on the Main Street side.
Per request of the SEK Multi-County Health Dept.,
the refreshments and announcements will take place outdoors
on the sidewalk and attendees will be invited to take turns
going inside to check out the expansion and new merchandise.
There will be a ribbon cutting outside to celebrate the expansion
immediately following the Chamber Coffee.
Attendees are welcome to wear masks and any PPE to
feel comfortable and hand sanitizer will be provided.

Fort Scott Sidewalk Sale: Parking Spots Were Difficult to Find

It was difficult to find a parking spot on Main Street in downtown Fort Scott on Saturday.

 

The Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce hosted the Merchant Madness Sidewalk Sale and invited shoppers to come shopping.

 

The mild weather and recent reopening of businesses during the COVID 19 pandemic made for a perfect day to go shopping.

 

Another Merchant Sale And Town-Wide Garage Sale

 

Another town-wide sale is coming soon and this time includes all those who want to clean out closets and garages.

 

On June 12-13 retailers will be celebrating National Flag Week, according to a press release from the Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce.

 

With any purchase, shoppers will receive a souvenir American Flag and also they can fill out a Trivia Card to enter them into a drawing for $50 Chamber Of Commerce Bucks.

 

Also on that weekend of June 12-13, there will be a Spring Town-Wide Garage Sale.

 

To register one’s sale which will be printed on a  garage sale map, call  the Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce at 620. 223.3566. Sellers may also sign up at Bids & Dibs, 108 Scott Ave.

 

The cost is $10 to be added to the map.

 

All customers are to use hand sanitizer at every yard sale before touching merchandise and homeowner should have this available, also practice social distancing of being 6-feet apart, according to the press release.

Sidewalk Sale This Saturday, May 30, As Merchants Reopen

The weather looks good for Saturday,  a perfect day to get out and shop Fort Scott.

 

This Saturday, May 30, eleven retail stores have signed up to be a part of the Merchant Madness Sidewalk Sale, hosted by the  Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce.

 

The event will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and participating stores will be marked with purple balloons, according to Rita Schroeder, the Chamber’s administrative assistant.

 

Those who have signed up: include Bids & Dibs, Books & Grannies (inside), Heidrick’s True Value/Nancy’s Gift Corner, Fort Scott Gun & Pawn, Hedgehog.INK (inside),  J & W Sports Shop, Main St. Gallery & Gifts, Mayco Ace Hardware, Ruddick’s Furniture, Sunshine Boutique, Iron Star (inside) and Treasure Hunt Flea Market.

 

 

In light of the COVID 19 Pandemic, most businesses will have hand sanitizer available before touching items in the sale.

 

However, bringing one’s own sanitizer is a good option while shopping.

 

Hedgehog.INK is asking all who enter their store to wear masks as well.

 

Social distancing is in force in the county for all public events.
