Annual Holiday Open House Nov. 11-13

3-Day Holiday Open House Kick-Off : November 11, 5-8pm

The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce announces the Annual Holiday Open House Shopping Event will take place November 11th to 13th in the Downtown Historic District and other participating locations.

Many retailers will be open Thursday evening, November 11th from 5 to 8pm for a special shopping kick-off with the Holiday Open House continuing on Friday and Saturday during normal business hours. In honor of Veterans Day and our local veterans, participating stores will be making a donation to Wreaths Across America from Thursday evening’s sales.

Dolly the Trolley will provide complimentary transportation between shopping locations Thursday from 5 to 8pm for those wishing to shop and ride.

Participating retailers include the following location: Angela Dawn’s Boutique, Barbed Wire & Roses Vintage Market, Bartlesmeyer Jewelry, Bids & Dibs, Courtland Hotel & Spa – Flying P Ranch, Hedgehog.INK!, Hole In the Wall Liquor, Iron Star Antiques & Such, Laree + Co, Main Street Gallery & Gifts, Papa Don’s (vendors), Sekan’s Occasion Shop, Shirt Shack, Sunshine Boutique, and Varia ~ Quality Resale Clothing Store.

A Big Crowd At 2021 Fort Scott Halloween Parade

The Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce facilitated the annual Halloween Parade in historic downtown on Saturday, Oct. 30.
“We handed out a hot dog lunch to just shy of 600 kids in costumes so including their parents, grandparents, and other family members there were probably three times that many people, upward to 1,500-2,000 people who attended the festivities Saturday morning,” Lindsay Madison, executive director, said on the Chamber Facebook page.

Madison expressed thanks to the following:
*   downtown retailers, businesses, and other organizations who handed out candy along Main Street.
*  Briggs of Fort Scott, a major sponsor of the event
* additional sponsors and donators included: Niece Products of Kansas, Kansas Teachers Community Credit Union, Fort Scott Sharky’s Pub & Grub, Valu Merchandisers Company – VMC, Fort Scott Inn, Fort Scott Family Dental, Crain Insurance Agency, 3d Alternator & Starter Repair, Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes, Security 1st Title, Walmart Fort Scott, Fort Scott Walgreens, Treasure Hunt Flea Market, and Don’s Spirits and Wines. Trick-or-Treat Parade!
The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce recognizes & appreciates the support of this event from the sponsors below!
Saturday, October 30, 2021 @ 11:00 AM
10 -12 pm:Walgreens will be taking pictures with a Halloween Backdrop & providing a free 4 x 6 print. The backdrop will also be available throughout the event for pictures with your own camera.
Also, the FSHS Thespians will be doing face painting!
11 am:Parade will start at La Hacienda, down the west side of Main Street to 2nd, then back down the east side of Main Street to Skubitz Plaza.
Following parade:Hot dog, chips & drink will be served to the kids in costume provided through the generous donation of local businesses!

***Businesses along Main Street will be handing out candy during the parade, and businesses not on Main Street as well as any community organizations are welcome to set up a table along Main to pass out candy, coupons, promo items, etc.
Please emailthe Chamber if your business or organization will be passing out candy so we can plan accordingly.

Chamber After-Hours on Nov. 4 at Landmark Bank

Chamber After-hours hosted by the Fort Scott Area Community Foundation

The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce announces an After-hours event hosted by the Fort Scott Area Community Foundation will take place Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 5:15 to 6:30pm at Landmark National Bank, 200 S. Main Street.

The mission of the Community Foundation is to “Honor the Past, Impact the Future” by creating a giving and granting environment which addresses the immediate and long-term charitable needs of our community. The After-hours event will feature grant presentations to the 2021 award recipients. Light refreshments will be served.

Any individual or organization can donate to the foundation in the form of monetary gifts, transfer of real estate, investments, or a memorial. Contributions are placed in an endowed fund which is a permanent pool of resources of which only the interest is used in granting each year. The goal of the endowed funds is to exist in perpetuity so that the needs of the greater Bourbon County area are met both now and in the future.

Chamber Coffee hosted by Trinity Lutheran Church

 

The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce invites members and guests to a Chamber Coffee this Thursday, October 28th at 8 a.m. hosted by Trinity Lutheran Church. The coffee will be at 2824 S. Horton Street. Coffee, juice, and light refreshments will be served, and attendees may enter a drawing for door prizes.

Michael Apfel is the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, an LC-MS congregation. Weekly services are on Sundays at 9 a.m. with Bible study following.

Lots of Options For Kids On Halloween

Many activities are planned for Fort Scott’s entertainment this Halloween.

Starting Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Common Ground Coffee House Fort Scott High School Debate and Forensic Students will be reading spooky stories.

Friday, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Presbyterian Village Assisted Living staff will be hosting trick or treaters outside the facility.

Also Friday, from  4 to 7 p.m., Briggs Auto Lot will be hosting trick or treaters.

Saturday at Buck Run Community Center from 9 to 10 a.m., kids can make creepy, crawly crafts for $1 and then come back from 1 to 3 p.m. to carve a pumpkin for $3.

At the Butcher Block, one can purchase smoked turkey legs or hot dogs for dinner and enjoy caramel apples at 6 p.m.

The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Halloween Parade will be held Saturday, October 30 at 11 a.m. in downtown Fort Scott.

Starting at 10:30 a.m., there will be special activities including pictures with a spooktacular backdrop at the City Scales building on North Main Street,  and face painting by Fort Scott High School Thespians.

The parade of children will trick-or-treat merchants along Main Street, starting at La Hacienda Restaurant, south to 2nd Street, crossing the street then heading north back to Skubitz Plaza, according to a Chamber press release.

Here are the business names that will be set up in front of The Liberty Theatre/Crooners: Front Door Real Estate, Fort Scott Gun and Pawn, Dr. Burke’s Office, and Paws and Claws.

Any businesses or organizations in the community, not located along Main Street, are welcome to set up a table on the sidewalk also providing treats, coupons, or other handouts for kids, according to the release.

Children are encouraged to bring a sack or bag to collect treats along the parade route.

Following the parade, a free hot dog lunch will be served to kids in costumes, according to the release.

On Sunday, October 3, Sonic Drive-In Restuarant will have 50 cent corndogs for sale all day.

On Sunday evening, both Community Christan Church and the Fort Scott Church of the Nazarene will be hosting trunk and treats for the community.

 

Friday Night Free Concert: St. Martin’s Academy

Ralph Carlson introduces the Friday Night Concert musicians May 2019.

Students of Saint Martin’s Academy will be the featured entertainment at this week’s Friday Night Concert. The school currently has an enrollment of 55 boys, ages 13 to 18. The music department is under the direction of Dave Agee and Daniel Kerr.

This lively group of young men will warm your heart with their endearing performances of folk, country, and gospel songs,“ concert-series organizer Ralph Carlson said. “In addition to their musical talent, these students have proven to be an asset to the community with their willingness to help out in various areas. We are pleased to welcome Saint Martin’s Academy back to perform in our downtown pavilion. This concert will conclude the 2021 season, so bring a friend and join us for an enjoyable evening of music.”

The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Heritage Park Pavilion at First and Main streets. The shows, sponsored by the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce, are free and open to the public. Stephan Moses will serve as sound technician this week. Due to limited seating, attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the Common Ground Coffee Co., 12 E. Wall Street.
