Join us Sunday, August 2 at 2 pm for a special program at Miners Hall Museum, “The Tables that Built Us.” Doors open at 1:30. Free admission.
Chuckie Hessong from Laughing Rooster Eats will celebrate the flavors, traditions, and stories that helped shape Southeast Kansas. Guests will have the opportunity to sample a few of the recipes in Chuckie’s new book being published this year in honor of Pittsburg’s 150th Anniversary! Refreshments will be served.

Participants will explore the rich culinary heritage passed down through generations of immigrant families, miners, settlers, and community builders.
This program is presented in conjunction with the quarterly exhibit, “Blueprints of American Grit: McNally and 150 Years of Pittsburg Progress,” on display July 1–September 26. The exhibit is hosted by Celebrate Pittsburg/Pittsburg 150, Sarah Runyon, President.
Food has always been more than nourishment—it tells the story of who we are. From treasured handwritten recipes to family traditions brought from around the world, this program celebrates the diverse cultures that helped build our communities. It honors the immigrants and families whose heritage contributed to the remarkable cultural tapestry of Southeast Kansas, where more than 50 languages were once spoken. This event is also part of 2026 programming commemorating Pittsburg 150, the 250th Anniversary of the United States, and the enduring spirit, determination, and heritage of our region.
Bring your friends and discover the stories behind the meals that brought generations together. After the program, guests are invited to view the special quarterly exhibit.
