FORT SCOTT — A $90,139.25 bill for the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office to move to its own computer services goes back on the County Commission’s agenda Monday, Nov. 9, after a 2-2 vote left it unpaid.
Chairman Gregg Motley told commissioners on Nov. 2 that he had a “firestorm” of calls about the pricing. “It’s been unanimous on calls that this is way, way overpriced,” he said, referring to calls from Bourbon County constituents.
A July 22 estimate from Advantage Computer Enterprises of Iola, in the meeting packet, lists $17,680 for eight months of labor, $19,865.25 for a main server, $21,035 for a monitoring server and service, $14,544 for computers, $8,996 for data backup and $5,595 for email migration. Those items total $87,715.25. Handwritten changes on the packet copy raise the computers from 12 to 14, adding $2,424, for a total of $90,139.25. The estimate lists computer installation separately, at $200 to $250 each, and monitoring after the first year at $11,160 a year.
Commissioner David Beerbower, who drafted the resolution, said the sheriff’s office chose the company in part because the district court uses it, and that it will be the sheriff’s computer provider “whether we approve this or not.” Motley and Commissioner Mika Milburn-Kee voted no. Beerbower and Commissioner Joe Allen, who seconded the motion, were the two votes in favor.
