Governor Laura Kelly’s Statement on Kansas House Passing Abortion Constitutional Amendment

TOPEKA – The following is Governor Laura Kelly’s statement in response to the Kansas House of Representatives’ passage of an amendment to the Kansas Constitution to reverse the Kansas Supreme Court’s decision that abortion is a constitutional right under the state.

“I’ve always believed that every woman’s reproductive decisions should be left to her, her family, and her physician. While I know others do not share my belief, I don’t think those supporting this amendment are aware of the consequences it will have for the state of Kansas and our reputation.

“We already know how this ends – North Carolina’s notorious bathroom bill cost that state nearly $4 billion in economic development – and this amendment has the same potential to do irreparable damage to our COVID-19 economic recovery efforts and our long-term prospects to recruit businesses and workforce talent.”

  1. I’m thankful the Value Them Both amendment has passed the house. In my opinion Abortion provides “ irreparable damage” to our women, men and babies; to our families and thus to our economy. We need to provide better choices to our society, better economy, improved adoption and pregnancy assistance programs, loving care for those who have experienced abortion, and positive supports for women and families experiencing unplanned pregnancies. God knows what “talents” have been extinguished due to abortion. I’m hopeful states that have passed regulations allowing abortion on demand up to the time of birth will be repealed.

    1. I appreciate and agree with your comments 100%. Thank you Nancy for taking the time to write this well thought out response to Gov. Kelly

    The following is my response to the people of the state of Kansas and the USA;
    Regarding abortion on demand.
    There should never be a constitutional right to kill or have someone kill your own unborn offspring.
    Said offspring, commonly known as an unborn baby, is a complete and separate life with it’s own dna, it’s own heart, brain, and body that is not the mother’s body. Everyone knows this is. Whether they admit it or not is a big part of the issue.
    Those who are for abortion on demand refuse to admit the obvious.
